Who are they?

I looked at Laura Bush and discounted her as the candidate.

I looked at Columba Bush (Jeb's wife) and saw a sort of likeness but:-

I am now certain it is Barbara Bush .............final answer.

Point of interest regarding the clue "a bird in the hand" The proverb relates back to medieval falconry.
images
Falconry was really up and coming, in fact almost all the royalty and upper class citizens practised it in their spare time alongside other forms of hunting. Henry the 8th and Wee Willie were avid falconer's and it is said that their falconry mews were larger than their stables

Thanks for trying to help izzy I thought laura but now going with Barbara Bush
at least I have an idea this time not a blank :D

Granddaughter of an eminent British politician
who travelled abroad to make her fortune.

No doubt grand-papa would have highly
disapproved of her chosen career in life.
(rather common for one of ours, don't you agree grand-mama)

Good luck

I got this one on sight and now I have a moral dilemma. Do I say who it is and maybe claim a cup while spoiling it for everyone or do I wait and give everyone a chance.

I remember her being nailed to a door once upon a time.

I'll give my answer tomorrow.

I'm afraid I'm not patient enough to hold off...

Angela Lansbury? She of Murder She Wrote (and Disney's Beauty and the Beast) fame?

Yes she is Angela Lansbury.

Here is a still from Sampson and Delila where she is still wearing the spear which had gone right through her and nailed her to a door.

I say it's Angela too.

I am taking back my guess as I didn't really guess it did I.

I didn't recognise the picture or get Willies clue.

Only fair isn't it....

Next one, (that's the one who, you won't guess who) coming shortly. :D

carty and damonfrog...just about to change the erroneously dated medal. I know I know, I'm a plonker.

Oh no Willie not with all the work you put in and the skill in editing photos and prizes and ......................zzzzzzzzzzz

Are you feeling better now?

Can I stop now because this is getting tiring since it's uncharacteristic of me.

At least I'm sincere. As Bob Monkhouse said, "Once you can fake sincerity you've got it made".

Edit: I just looked up the quote and Jean Giraudoux said it first. Exactly ............who?

I just found a interesting find regarding "plonker"
A policeman successfully prosecuted The People newspaper for libel in 1990 after being called a plonker after raiding a joke shop for an "an indecent display" which included chocolate willies. He was awarded damages.
Sorry Willie, I just thought you may have been there as a treat.

Roy :)

I hope the policeman got over his terrible shock ok.

Does anyone know what the rest of the display had in it?

You know, this guy could almost be my twin brother. Seriously.
That's what I looked like in the early 60's same hair style suit and tie.
And the glasses, 'specially the glasses. I was soooo proud of them,
I can even remember the name of the style.."He Man" :D
Don't look anything like that now. (thank goodness lol)

Anyway.....

Definition of beauty? = I think, a more beautiful site than a beautiful woman I have yet to see.

Definition of mystery? = He thinks, "Women".

The hair looks as if it's been tampered with, it hasn't.

Have fun.
