the only footballer I would put in this game would be George Best..

Izzzi. I am completely clueless about football and I can't make out what that smoke clue picture says so I am going to have to sit this one out.

I have Google image searched Argentinian footballers and Argentinian referees and drawn a complete blank.......

I am clueless about football as well, just thought the Pope might work a miracle for the winners in the world cup.

Zola I entered your clue into google, and this answer came up straight away.
 
Harvey Pekar is an old favourite of mine as he drew little stick men and had all the ideas and Robert Crumb ( who I put up as a guess who a few weeks back.)
A film called American Splendor was made in 2003 and I have seen it loads and love it.
