Got diagnosed a few weeks ago and am doing my damndest to beat the thing (exercise, lose weight etc etc....). Part of this is monitoring by glucose levels and am noting an odd thing : my glucose levels rise overnight. I am on metformin with my meals (at the mo twice a day - 500mg) . For example: a couple of days ago a late evening glucose level was 4.7; next morning it was 5.7 with NO metformin or food in between. This is where is I am puzzled. I am a (irony!) biochemistry graduate and I dug out my (up-to-date) text book and it had the classic graph in it of the glucose levels either stabilising or decreasing overnight..... Anybody know what is happening? Happy to talk as detailed as needs be! Found the answer: http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/Articles/Diabetes-Definitions/dawn_phenomenon/
