the more reading im doing on this forum the more im seeing people having things like bacon and egg for breakfast rather than a cereal due to BG spikes. this morning i was 5.6 when i woke, i had bran flakes with semi skimmed milk and took 3 units for the 30g or so of carbs, 3.5 hours later i was 5.2. it doesn't seem to be causing a spike but im on alot of long acting insulin, started before my healthy eating on 40 units and now on 35 but considering going down to 30. i noticed guides seem to reccomend about 50 percent of your total insulin to be a long acting, mine is more than 3 quarters of my total and im worried that i should reduce it down.
would like peoples opinions on spikes with wholemeal fibre cereals please, it realy fills me up for hours and i like the taste

I have high fibre cereal for breakfast - wheat bran, mixed with flaxseeds (linseeds), and I use unsweetened Soya milk, as I find cows milk raises my BS. I use granulated sweetener to taste.

I find it doesn't raise my BS at all :)

Soya milk is quite nice. It can taste a little strange at first, but that's due to the fact that we're used to cows milk.

I find you can't tell the difference between the 2 in hot drinks and porridge.

Tesco value unsweetened Soya milk is very cheap, and tastes very creamy.

Alpro is much more expensive, but I've never bought it, so I can't comment on that.

Stay away from the Asda smartprice Soya milk - it is very watery, and I find it quite vile to be honest! Haha.
