Who has symptoms

T2 can be insidious with glucose levels gradually rising so causing no perceptible symptoms like many of those above until very high glucose levels are reached. That's why DUK called it the silent assassin in one of their campaigns.
There are people that aren't diagnosed until they have the onset of complications. (quite high levels in some countries).
(and you aren't even going to get sweet tasting urine until your levels are above 10mmol/l, fortunately doctors no longer have to use this method but it was the standard test for centuries. I do remember the account of a child that was 'diagnosed' by her parents when ants were attracted to an outside loo)

I was dx because of a abcess very common in diabetics im told and horrid as if your sugars are not under control takes ages to heal and respond. If I did not have that I was feeling good

I read the opening post "type 2 is giving you" to mean what is T2 currently giving you? This is why I said "nothing". Obviously lots of symptoms at diagnosis, but currently nothing to report due to good control. No symptoms I can see and feel anyway. Who knows what lurks within :nurse:

@turvell - May I ask a question?

In terms of your day to day life, what would you be doing differently if it was decided you weren't diabetic?

I didn't have symptoms at diagnosis, aside from hypertension, which has now now, also without any medication. I also had a period of questioning my diagnosis, but it's impossible to repeat an historic test when some of the parameters have changed. For me those mean, I have lost some weight and modified my diet, so I accept the diagnosis was bewildering, but get on with trying to ensure I am leading a healthy life (mainly!) moving forward.

According to the 1 in 3 are prediabetic report that's come out today, you are more likely to develop diabetes if you are poor. Well that's that then! Obviously you can buy your way out of diabetes! The only thing I can see about being poor and diabetes is if you live off pre packaged, full of carb/sugar convenience foods, you might raise the risk....and there was me thinking that the primary factor was weight, because that's what they want us all to believe. I am skinny and hardly ever had a convenience meal, preferring to cook from scratch 90% of the time with fresh foods but I was still told I am prediabetic.

Oh, and I followed their low fat advice for years, the foods of which are sometimes a little more expensive than other products. Give me strength, it makes you wonder what really gives with all this. Money, money, money, it's a rich man's world! :)
