Anonymous question submitted:

I am Very ill and have been for over 10 years. Up untill about a year ago I was able to keep some control over the Diabetes. The problem now is that when I am very sore and my sugars go up I cannot get them down. 40Units normally but can take over 150Units but sugars still over 25. Only started happening about a year ago, before then same meds same problems, but take 4 units and sugar would drop, now it only starts falling when I have relief from Pain. Spoken to pain doctors and Diabetic doctors who have no idea. Is there anywhere to try and figure this out???? Thanks.

Not much to go on as we can't look at your profile to see what type of diabetes you have or what insulin you are using. It could be you have become resistant to the type of insulin you are using and may need to change insulin's, if you've put on weight recently that in itself can increase insulin resistance, being in pain causes stress which can in turn raises bg. As I say not much to go on so a little more detail wouldn't go a miss then hopefully somebody may offer you some help.

HI. For interest are you also maintaining some control of your diet ref carbs? Stress and illness can all cause sugars to rise so perhaps not surprising but with the insulin units already high, an optimum diet and exercise if possible may help?
