I think it's pretty certain that obesity and T2 are LINKED. That however doesn't prove cause and effect. Jenny Ruhl of "Diabetes 101website" has argued that the 2 phenomena may have a common cause. Thus obesity may more resemble a symptom than a cause. As LGC says statistics can be manipulated.
It suits some people to be able to blame diabetics for their condition. that way society can allow them to continue unaided. The NHS can avoid prescribing test strips, because those people don't need them.[ don't deserve them ! :? ]
I might have avoided developing T2 if I'd been slim all my life, but although I always tried to keep my weight down, I failed consistently. My Mother, Grandmother and probably great-grandmother are/were T2 also. All rather on the heavy side, but none of us is/was truly obese.
