Why different readings

Hi, I have a Gluco Rx Nexus monitor. It has different settings for measuring: AC for a fasting test, PC for two hours after eating and general. I was just experimenting and seeing whether the readings varied if I tested myself on the different settings one after the other, and they do differ. Why is that? Sorry if it's a bit of a thick question, just interested what the monitor is measuring in each mode.

Thanks!

The readings are the same, but the meter stores all readings and uses the "marks" when the readings are downloaded to a computer, or you ask the meter for averages etc. So for example, the meter will be able to tell you the average most meal reading over the last 7 days.

The readings were taken one after the other but each time I selected a different mode. I'm not questioning the accuracy, I'm curious why the machine has different modes? Why not just take one type of reading.

Are they not the same type of reading mmol/l? just 'tags' so you can seperate them for better comparisons, eg you can seperate all the fasting readings

Do you mean different catrogories such as pre and post meal readings? If so it's because it's often very useful or important to know what the averages are for these various different categories. You can often set up individual target ranges for these different options and these can tell you how you are managing so you know where you may need to take appropriate action - e;g; if your pre meal levles are within target but post meal averages are high, it will be a sign that you need to re-consider what you're eating.

If you 're asking about the actual figures changing with sequential tests, it's simply because glucose circulates with your blood, so readings will vary all the time - baesically how we get our pre ands post meal results.

Some meters also have various other features ike "alternarive site testing" so you can prick elsewhere than fingers tips, or allow you (with a different type of test strips) to check ketone levels which can be important for T1s.
