Not very good on computers!
Last night, 4 hours after a low carb meal, I took my reading before bed. It was only 3.2. Rather low, but not worried as I know they always go up over night, not down. 8 hours later it was 5.5. All I'd done was sleep. How does it always go up over 2 points can anyone explain. I've been type 2 for 9 years. Recently reducing my meds as going low carb -which I only heard of thanks to this forum

< 5 mmol is ideal. But 5.5 mmol in the morning is a very good reading for T2D. If you can maintain this, you are well on your way to a normalized HbA1c reading.

Thank you all for the responses, very helpful. Dawn phenomenon is another thing I haven't heard of. Must do more reading. Thanks again, I do like this site, so very helpful.

Seems that we've explained that little phenomenon pretty well. Can someone please tell me why my liver and I suspect many other livers only do a dawn phenomenon when they feel the urge. So many times I have factored in for this force of nature only to be let down. Happy the forum solved your problem. Have a nice day.

It can also be the somogyi affect, which is similar but specifically the body's natural reaction to raise a low blood sugar.

I've had this problem recently - ended up reducing my levemir and splitting it into two sites at night (26 units one side of the stomach and 26 the other side of the stomach) and increasing my novo rapid ratio to 1.5 units per 10g carbs instead of 1 unit over 10g. They think that I was going hypo in my sleep so that my liver was kicking in and releasing glucose making me high in the morning - as to see your diabetic specialist and log all your sugar readings and all your insulin doses (I'm type 2 on insulin)

Good luck x
