So ive only been testing rigidly for 2-3wks so i can learn how things and foods affect my blood.

I tested before bed last night, which was also about 3hrs after food. It was 6.4mmol (which considering 3wks ago I was averaging 12-16mmol is great start). When I woke today I tested before breakfast and it was 7.6mmol.

What causes it to rise without new food intake, all i done was sleep for hours?

There are many things that affect our blood sugars , not just food.
Alcohol, exercise, stress, illness, medication, weather, how well we sleep, time of day, month, year, ...

Hi @DeadlyCatch

It looks like you’re suffering from Dawn phenomenon or liver dump. It’s when the liver releases glucose to get your body ready for the day ahead, all perfectly normal. From your post it appears you haven’t been diagnosed long, you are doing very well so far, but just bear in mind that fasting figures are the last to settle down.

Hello,

I'm not sure what your morning routine is after waking. (You did say test before breakfast.)
My morning workday routine prior to setting off can be interesting. (Which used to include walking a dog.)
Some notice it on waking. Some like me call it "foot to the floor syndrome."
Basically, it's possible to have a great FBG on waking but during a two hour period of prep during the melle before a busy planed day, with nill by mouth. (I don't do breakfast.) my BG can elevate by as much as 3mmol? (Checking my BGs before driving.)

Have a look at what you test at, just after waking?
