Why does it take so long

Does anyone know why my blood glucose is still up at 8.5 mmol 4 hours after a meal? I dont know why it takes so long for it to drop. It seems that just as its starting to go down its time to eat again. It driving me crazy.

Thanks

may I suggest that the food you ate is not agreeing with you?

perhaps some foods simply keep your blood glucose levels high and you should use your meter to find foods that do not raise your blood glucose that high?

good luck

Thanks for the reply
Currently i am on diet only but the last week or so my sugars are slow to come down from their peak. My morning sugar is about 7 - 7.5mmol

I had the same but found that some short period of exercise would bring it down. I'm not talking about fitness training or exercise to lose weight, but to exercise to aid digestion. Typically people used to go for a short walk after a meal. Various hormones and ezymes are triggered which improve the insulin sensitivity. It also works the other way around. If you have a meal and then go and sleep it off, rather than walk it off, your BGs are even higher. A lot of talk is about things like cardio vascular exercises, to improve your heart and lungs, but this is quite different. I use a rower but its rather like walking up a moderately steep hill or going up a few flights of stairs. Only 5 or 6 mins. I'd guess, but that's all it is, if you were walking on the flat, it would be like a 15 min walk. It just seems to gee up your insulin response and get it to work a bit quicker.

I was just like this whilst on tablet medication only.
It wouldnt come down enough then as you say it was time to eat again .
So up it would climb further .

It wasnt untill I was put onto insulin the levels started to drop with far better results.
Combined with some form of activity the levels would start to drop 'lowering BG's'
Giving me control 'finally' ...

What regime are you using?

Anna.

Well my bg when i had my first fasting glucose was 6.5 making me pre diabetic. I was told to exercise and watch my diet. However since then my fasing is about 7 and 3-4 hours after i eat my bg is about 8. So not really high just constantly higher than normal. I have another blood test Monday. I hope I dont need medication or insulin but i suppose its better than having high bg. If you dont mind me asking are you t1 or t2
Thanks:-)
