Why high bloods

Hi Can someone give me some advice please. Why is it that when I wake up at 6.30am my fasting bloods are 7, I then take my tables with a glass of water, go of to work. Sometimes I have a diet coke or coffee with sweetener when I get into work, sometimes nothing, but by 9am my bloods will be 11. Any advice would be good. Thanks

Hi @Doreendent , Are you T1, or T2? I am guessing from what you have said about tablets, and not said about insulin you are T2, however if you are T1, the first 3 things I would guess are Dawn Phenomenon, poor basal rate or a rebound to an overnight hypo. If you are not T1, then I guess Dawn phenomenon is still plausible, Incorrect basal is not, and I am not convinced a rebound is likely? Can you advise on which type you are and you'll probably get further feedback. In either Type, the stress of the journey to work, or even the thought of work alone, could raise your BG as well.

Hi Sorry not very good at this. Type 2 on 2 500g metformin and 1 80g gliclazide twice a day. Work is't that stressful, but even if a don't eat all day, I find it hard to keep the numbers down.

Hi @Doreendent I'm Type 1 so I'm not familiar with your meds, but what you describe sounds like a possible liver dump to me. This is where your liver dumps glucose into your blood. It often happens in the morning, especially if you don't eat first thing, as your body wants to get you ready for the day so dumps glucose/energy into your blood.

How is your blood sugar if you eat small regular meals?

Let me tag @daisy1 for you as she has some basic information.

I dont like to eat first thing, I normally have a salad with cheese or chicken for lunch and meet of fish and veg or salad for dinner. I'm trying to lose weight, so the past 3 weeks have been on the low blood sugar diet, this has been fantastic for me, bring my bloods down and losing 16 pounds. But my body is taking some adjustment to work when my bloods are between 5 and 7. I don't seem to have much energy., but I think it's something I just going to have to ride out.

In my opinion it would be helpful if you could manage to eat something for breakfast. It needn't be very much but it might reduce the liver dump. I don't recommend cereals since that would be counterproductive but a hard boiled egg (as in salads) or a high quality sausage (low carbs). It needn't be a whole breakfast just something so your stomach doesn't panic.

I just re-read the thread and didn't spot this earlier. If you don't eat all day you are inviting your liver to supply glucose and therefore potential high blood sugar readings. Eating small regular amounts of things without carbs in will probably be better.

If your body is low on energy it will release some of the glucose stored in your liver to boost energy levels required for every day activities and to ensure adequate supply to the brain.
