Why is eating out so difficult?

I've just returned from a night away staying in a hotel near to the NEC and Genting Arena. But why are food choices so restricted for diabetics? I've been told I AM diabetic by my Dr but I have to have a 2nd fasting blood test for "official" diagnosis.

So, trying to be good I ordered a chicken breast burger with came with chunky chips and salad garnish. I also ordered a "side" of extra salad. I gave the top of the bun/bap to my husband to eat and I confess the chunky chips were so good I ate them all :greedy: I HAD intended to give at least half of them to my husband who was watching me eagerly for an extra helping ;) I ate LOTS of salad and just drank sparkling mineral water whilst hubby had 2 pints of cider.

When we got back to the hotel after the concert / gig I confess I caved in and had a bacardi with diet coke - whoops!

I agree, an unexpected plate of really nice chips is very tempting. Nice chips are so hard to find. I have to be prepared by either looking up the menu online beforehand or making "no chips for me" clearly understood. Salads are nearly always dressed with something sweet unless you order otherwise. Luckily (?) I don't eat out often and at the few places I go to they don't mind doing me a special, like a burger without bread.
Is bacardi bad? That's a pity.
We are only human. No, we are gloriously human.

Luckily the side salad DIDN'T have any dressing on it, or the salad garnish and I never added anything to it. I don't think alcohol is very good for a diabetic, although someone may tell me otherwise. Although, I think the occasional glass of red wine is ok? I had to watch hubby with his cider, lager (at the Genting Arena) and then 2x doubles of Morgans Rum & Coke back at the hotel bar! :grumpy::(
