Can someone tell me what the Newcastle diet is and what the advantage is of doing it
I notice on here quite a few diabetics do it

Hi Vinny
OMG I looked at the link and the Newcastle diet is only 600 calories a day for 2 months surely that can't be good especially for diabetics who do not need to loose weight. I think they would disappear on that diet I certainly would as I am underweight already.
Seems the diet just consist mostly of slimming drinks and low starch vegetables. Do doctors and dietians recommend it

I think most professionals would advise caution as the longer term results are not in yet.
My question would be how many of the 11 went back their previous weight and what were their Blood glucose levels like in 12 months.

The one thing that stuck out for me was not to go on this diet without first obtaining medical advice.
The other was who funded the study? Was it the company who supplied the nutrition packs??

I have to declare here that I don't really believe in 'diets' more 'lifestyles' to achieve required goals.

Anyway, I came across this thread below on this very topic which has more info;
