Why so high?

The past couple of weeks I've been really taking control of my blood sugars. I've been exercising every day and have managed to keep my bloods below 10 for a few weeks and am feeling much better in myself.

However. I had a few glasses of wine on Saturday night so was dipping in and out of hypos yesterday but nothing too bad. I had a hypo in the night but I didn't test just had a few chunks of chocolate and went back to sleep. This was at 4am.
I woke up this morning feeling groggy after the hypo and my bg was 13.0 ate two pieces of toast and had a skinny cappuccino which came to 42g of carb. Did two extra units for a correction and did my basal. This normally fixes things and the rest of the day is fine.

Just had my lunch which was 46g of carb and tested my bg and it's 17.0 :( obviously I've done another correction but does anyone know what I've done wrong to make it keep rising like this?

I'm not feeling well at all right now.

Thanks

Probably the reason is alcohol yesterday. It causes a swing effect - low then high. Low while your liver processes the alcohol, which it does in preference, as it's a poison. Then BG rises as the liver resumes normal operations.

Alcohol messes up your bloodsugar for a couple of days... if it persists try fasting etc, but I'm sure it's nothing too long term

Thanks, I know it's nothing serious and it's not the first time I've been drunk either, not by a long stretch!
Maybe I just noticed it more because it's been better controlled lately.

Thanks for your comments.

2 pieces of toast that I eat are 40g for me and a skinny latte... Well no idea, but in costas n cafe's the skinnys are only skinny on fat content..not carbs....

I personally do not think it was the alchohol...

I had two slices of medium white bread (I have the same every day) which comes to 35g and then it was a dolce gusto skinny cappuccino which was 7g I made it myself.

I don't think I'll ever know why it happened but it's back to normal today :)

Actually re reading your post, starting off the morning at 13.0 was the significant player in then going up to 17.0... The lows were prob due to the wine... The 13.0 from the choc and the 17.0 just because you started at a bad level and when you are higher than 12.0 it can take more insulin to get back to normal....
