Hi Guys

I have Diabetes type 2 and have regular blood sugar readings of between 5 and 7...i started with toothache last week but by monday evening the pain was intense with no painkillers having any effect.
I went to the local dental access centre who examined me and said i needed 2 Wisdom teeth extracting...they sent me off for an xray and after checking it said i was being referred to a specialist due to complications...the dentist packed me off with Amoxycillin and said they would be in touch...considering the dentist was polish with pigeon english i spoke to the receptionist who explained it was because i was diabetic and they would not do anything until the infection died down...my sugars are now shooting up with no idea when i am going to be seen(now 10 and 11)...i have seen no improvement yet as i have only been taking the penicillin for 48 hours , I am off work and getting stressed out....does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

Jez....(taking metformin,simvastatin,perindopril,aspirin)

Jez.
You need to calm down. As with any infection when Diabetic your Bg levels will go awry. Just something that happens. Sometimes Diabetes has to take a back seat.........my recent Cancer treatment made my Bg levels go haywire 24+ most days........now all back to normal after treatment finished. So, just enjoy what you can of your break from work, let the treatment do it's work and try to relax. :D

Hi Carbsrok

sorry i have rephrased my post I am still taking the antibiotics i will be taking them until saturday but the pain is not getting any better and was just wondering how long before the amoxycillin takes hold.

Thanks Ken...

just hate having time off work...getting stressed about it and the constant throbbing and earache doesnt Help!!....I hope youre ok bud...thanks for the advice

As regards the pain the Amoxycillin is only for the infection. You ned to take a painkiller, ask your Pharmacist or GP for something suitable.

Ken.

Thanks....I am much better now. :D

Hello Jezzer128,

Try using hot water and salt mouth wash, to swish over that area in your mouth.
Do not swallow the salt water though.
The warmth and salt will start to draw the infection to the surface, releaving the pressure caused by the infection beneath the gum line.

Try to do this several times a day.

It worked for my husband in the past.

Put some 'clove oil' on your tooth and it will stop the pain. It's an anasthetic and is sold in every pharmacy without any prescription - it really does work !

It also tastes really bad if you get it on your tongue.
