I started Lantus, 10 units a year ago and only was asked to test fasting levels which have been good. A couple pf weeks ago, I had a series of lows and started to do more testing post prandial. Horrors! The readings were 13/14 so the nurse suggested I halve the evening Gliclazide to 40 and decrease the Lantus to 6 units. The first post dinner reading was unbelievably good - 8.2!
However for the last few days they have leaped to the late teens - scary.
Yesterday the nurse advised me to adjust my medication again. Keep evening Gliclazide at 40 but double the morning Gliclazide to 160. Increase Lantus to 8 units. The fasting reading this morning was 8.8 .....
I am now barely eating carbohydrates, a couple of oatcakes per meal.
I also have been suffering toothache for a few weeks and the filling fell out last Friday. I have been in severe pain but i have received treatment today and the pain whilst still there has subsided substantially.
The strips are well within the sell by date as is the Lantus. I did initially stored the new packet in the fridge under the freezer compartment but moved them further down. Room temperature is very hot in my flat, around 24 in the morning.
When changes are made to medication does it take a while to work? I am at my wits end!
PS I am stopping Propranolol, 1 tablet at a time. It can cause hyperglycaemia. My other medication, Levothyroxine and Carbimazole is about to be stopped as my thyroid is now normal.
