In November I'm going to Tanzania volunteering in a orphanage. I know I already have most of the vaccinations I need before I had diabetes spent time in Zambia. Not sure how much insulin to take, what's the best travel insurance to get last time the uni covered me. what's the best way to store insulin as they have so many power cuts can't leave it in a fridge. Arranged for a letter for taking needles etc to fly with. Wondering if I have forgotten anything?

Me! ;)

Few other things to think about - stuf for treating hypos. Will you have access to these? How much should you take with you etc. with regards to insulin, I'd take some fridge packs. Keep them in the fridge and if the power does fail store your insulin in them for a bit.

In terms of travel insurance, I get mine through Bupa, but it's a policy that work have arranged. It's very comprehensive and covers me for diabetes and just about anything else. Worth doing some shopping around though and make sure any policy will cover existing medical conditions.

How much insulin you take depends on how long you are going for. Bear in mind that some diabetics see a change in their insulin requirement in the heat.

Hope you have a lovely time. It sounds amazing!

For keeping your insulin cool, I'd suggest getting one of these: http://friouk.com/buy/

You submerge the pack in water and it keeps it cool for about 24 hours, then just resubmerge again for the next day. Not electricity required.

I used to use them on guide camp etc when I was a kid, really useful for on holiday on days out etc as well.

Hope all goes well, good luck!

Perfect thank you have ordered one ideal for the conditions will be in. As for hypos had not really thought of it too much will ask for more of the gel on script and also i know they have coco cola out there so can buy a bottle to keep hold of in case i need it.
