Hi all, my son was recently diagnosed type 1 and is now on insulin. (aged 20 student at uni)
problem is he was mis diagnose so his diabetes went undetected for a few months.
we recieved a letter from our GP and practice manager (now ex Gp) of apology admitting she had missed the blood test result.
eye test has revealed background retinopathy.
very worried and very angry. just feel like sueing them for negligence.
anyway feel a bit better getting it off my chest.
is anyone using an insulin pump?

hya and a warm welcome to the forum,
i can see why you are so annoyed, i too would be, i also was wrongly diagnosed with an illness quite a few yrs ago and it is so annoying, sorry i cant really help but wanted to welcome you :D

Hi Jim.
Welcome to the Forum.

Unfortunately mistakes happen everywhere, it is just bad when it happens in the NHS. Human errors crop up and most times people don't really suffer. Sometimes those errors can be fatal ! The main thing is how they deal with things when they realise the mistake.

Seems that now it has been picked up on your Son is going to be looked after. That's good. As for the apology that is good too, if one hadn't been forthcoming then I personally would have taken it further. Now, I think lessons have been learned. As I know to my cost recently, it's what they do after which matters.

There is a dedicated Insulin Pump Forum here which is probably the best place to glean information and get more answers about pumps.

Ken.

thanks Ken.
i found what you said was probably right, just have to get on with things and thank god it was discovered before it was to late.
many thanks, Jim.
