Hi. I'll keep it short. My father in law is type 2 but has been negligent in taking blood sugar readings. In order to familiarise myself with his monitor, I tested myself and got a reading of 9.6. I had eaten perhaps 15 min before. I repeated the next day in similar conditions and got 9. Does the time elapse after eating make much difference? I am 41, not overweight and pretty fit. I have made a doc appointment.

Hello and welcome @redsquirrel

Testing 15 minutes after eating could get that 9.6 in most people, with or without diabetes. Do you have any other symptoms?

I don't think so. I drink a lot but I'm breastfeeding so I've put it down to that. No weight loss. Tired but not exhausted - I have a young baby.

If you're at all worried about your health, see a doctor. Even if it's nothing at least you'll be reassured : )

To test properly, you need to,wash your hands just before. If you want to test after eating, then test 2 hrs after the start of your meal eg evening meal at 6pm so test at 8pm.

I have made a doc appointment. I will try what you advise. Much obliged to you for your advice.

That's a completely normal reading for non-diabetics.I wouldn't be all worry unless you get reading of 11.2 mmol or higher, anything below are considered normal just after eating.

I agree with the others that would be a perfectly normal reading for someone who is non diabetic that soon after a meal
