Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
I'm currently in my year 3 studying medicine. After finding out about my condition of type 2 diabetes, I lost my motivation to study. Do u think I could make it? I seriously need motivation especially from those who had to face similar challenges.

My dad has type 2 diabetes for 40 years. He has managed it pretty well by intermittent fasting (it's the best way to manage your condition).

Certainly if it is type 2, yes you can. You will probably need to keep a very close eye on your foods and sugars. Don't give up. Best of Luck.

Have you spoken to someone at your university about your issues?

I see absolutely no reason why you can’t both manage your diabetes and complete your degree. In fact it could be seen as wonderful motivation. Think how much of an insight you’ll have for your patients with chronic conditions and how much help you’ll be able to be supporting them achieve remission through diet (low carb and IF) and lifestyle rather than just writing a prescription.

Why do you think it’s incompatible? Most of us struggled for a while getting used to the diagnosis and it is a shock but looking ahead not back , dusting ourselves off and being proactive is the best way forward. Quite a few of us are in a better health position than we were for years before we knew And are actually grateful for the wake up call.

Thank u so much for speaking directly to my soul. Ur words mean a lot to me

Thank you so much!

Personally I’d have far more confidence in a medic that would give practical stance on condition and not just dish out medication. Go for it, we need more medics with more insight

It's so refreshing to find a medic who is also type 2, they speak our language, and understand so much more than the god like ones who "know it all". they may not be able to give advice against NICE guidelines, but they can and do give a wink or nod of encouragement at our way of doing things. Please continue your degree it would be a tragic waste of your efforts so far, and to a profession that needs more insider knowledge of various conditions.

I would not agree that IF is the best way. You'd still need to control carbs too for long term success.
I succeeded in getting into remission without 3 months by going low carb and have remained in remission since. The issue with IF is that if you eat 'normally' in between then you risk high blood sugar peaks that could be doing permanent damage even when your 3 month average HbA1c seems fine.

Medicine does not stand still, you need to use simple diet and medication approaches and wait for new innovative treatments to appear!

Medicine doesn't stand still, but pharmaceutical companies are not interested in curing anyone of diabetes. They want a captive pool of patients to supply ever more drugs to. they want to keep you alive, but dependent on their products.

We have innovative solutions! While they are in the field of high technologies on the example of Elon Musk! But I think that these technologies will reach the medicine of diabetes and similar diseases! I believe in it))

Elon Musk is in the business of making money. That is why he is now the richest person in the world. The innovations etc are not for the good of mankind, but for making more money. if he was a true philanthropist he would not have amassed such a fortune. Like Bill Gates whose foundation supposedly does such good works for the world, but actually makes a VERY healthy profit at the same time.
as the saying goes, give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for life. They don't want to teach you, but are happy to sell you a fish each day for the rest of your life.

They both improve people's lives! How once that wheel gave development to mankind and facilitated their work! So Bill Gates and Elon Musk improved people's lives! I personally often use paypel created by Elon Musk and I’m not afraid that I will be deceived, I can perfectly dispute my purchase and I will get my money back! I look forward to breakthrough technologies in the treatment of diabetes! Let not from these 2 people, but from other similar ones!

I assume you mean Paypal, which i use myself and also trust. However Elon Musk had nothing whatsoever to do with it.
