Hi everyone. I've not been diagnosed with diabetes but i think i may be having symptoms of having it and i'm worried sick. I keep getting sudden attacks of shaking, racing heart, feeling extremally hot and blurred vision. I'm in an attack now which came on whilst i was washing some dishes and the other day i was shopping with my sister-in-law and chatting away to her. She took me to a cafe to get something to eat (i'm not a big eater) and a drink. The symptoms did ease off after eating. I've had gestational diabetes when pregnant for my first child 30yrs ago and my mum was tablet controlled diabetic. These attacks are getting more frequent and quite frightening with an overwhelming need to sleep. I've been to my gp but he thinks it's panic attacks but i don't agree as they last far too long in my opinion. Any help would be very much appreciated. Jan

I am not able to help with what may be wrong but I do know that you must go back to our GP and suggest that some blood tests may get to the root of the problem. Be firm and if you think it would help take a friend or relative with you for support.

Sometimes doctors don't like being told what to do (I told mine that I thought I had type 2 so he got my bloods tested and when I went back for the results said that he was afraid to tell me I had type 2 to which I replied "told you that" - we both had a good laugh!)

So make an appointment and be firm, the worry is only going to make you feel worse.

Good luck and let us know how you get on :)

Thank you for your reply! I'm not very good when it comes to my Dr, i feel quite intimidated by him to be honest but i will go and talk to a nurse in the practice as soon as i can get an appointment. I will let you know how i get on. :-)

Good for you. Proactive from the word go. Please let us know how you get on.

I was just going to post saying i've booked a test for Wednesday morning at Lloyds. :-)

Good luck, it all probably feels a little daunting right now, but if the worst should happen, then come back here. We have all been in your shoes, and know how you feel. Most of us have now had chance to come to terms with the diagnosis and how to help ourselves. It's really not as bad as you might think it is. I have just had a whopping dinner and it was so delicious, but it's a safe meal for me so I know it will be fine and my BG will hardly move. You will become that confident as well, and a lot quicker than you think. :D

Take care.

Hi,

If you feel intimidated By your doctor, then you must change your doctor.
( female doctor could be a good choice.)

This is crazy what your are going through.

Surely a nurse is not qualified to diagnose what is causing your symptoms.

You could write down what is requested by yourself and that you feel intimidated. Then leave this note for your doctor to read asap.

If your doctor thinks it's "panic attack's" then what did he recommend?

Best of luck.

Roy.
