Hi . Am finding the constant efforts to try and get high BS levels down n it not being successful a daily worry, strain n stressful.Low carb counting n portion control n keeping active. Plus regular BS tests to see what foods spike or suit? Wake up with it on mind n go to sleep with heavy heart n disapointment. Its a real frustrating painful journey daily. Am getting weary with it all. Somedays must look how I feel. Does it get to others the same as me? Cant help but wonder? or am I getting actually depressed? Usually am so full of resilience n bounce back with steely determination. Anna.

Yep its getting to be a bit of an obsession,
If my bg goes into the 6's i get really annoyed with myself, i like being in the 4.6 to 5.8 and if i go over those i feel a bit down, :(

Hi Anna,

You have no control at the moment and it must be scary. (((hugs))). No matter how hard you try it does not work and you must be baffled as to why it works for others. It is not your fault.
Worry about the things you can change and not the ones that you can't.

You have not failed if you go onto insulin, your body needs it as it has proved to you. You have tried the usual approaches and you still cannot master it. In the USA it is not unusual for newly diagnosed Type 2's to be put on insulin as it gives the pancreas a rest. Later on they may come off it and take tablets, not all though.

Your biological makeup is unique, therefore you are unique and so why would what I do work for you? Don't keep beating yourself up or the stress will be counterproductive and you will feel unwell.

If you are put onto insulin you will be educated as to how it works, what dose you are being put on etc.... and you will have access to a HCP who will help with any queries. You will not be left to fend for yourself.

Even perfectionists cannot guarantee that they will cope with the management of their diabetes.

hello n thanks for your hugs n words of advice, you have hit the nail on the head, been trying so hard n nothing works have even felt like am not normal if you see what I mean? reading what works for others have tried same n it just stays high n sometimes goes higher!baffling me more... am dreading 1st june my mum is coming with me for support as I got upset last two appts. Am waking up with it worrying me too. Am scared of the future on an insulin regime that feels a minefield to walk in n am diabolical at maths too so how am I gonna count carbs? only drug my weird body n system will tolerate is the glp peptides n worry wont tolerate insulin. leaves me stressing n I know I shouldnt. Everytime I go out I catch a bug, virus, infection. Its knocked my confidence and have little faith in or with the diabetes specialist nurse assigned to me she preaches at me n bulldozes me verbally reduces me to tears n I want to avoid her like the plague now. It all gets me down n becomes too much for me. Anna.

Hi Anna,

If you have a job with maths then the answer is to treat yourself to this book, Carbs and Cals, a visual guide to Carbohydrate Counting. It is priced at £12.99. "Lots of pictures and few words".

I often think that this board should be required reading for DSNs . I am sure many can have no idea of the effect they have on their patients. I am very aware that they have their own pressures - targets, unsupportive Gps and probably a lot more . There is a great deal of bullying although I am sure it is not intended or recognised as such.
I am sure that many patients are difficul and uncooperative but it is probably the other kind who take it to heart and become very upset.
can tthey really fail to understand that people are shocked and bewildered when first diagnosed for example?
What about the poor souls who have other serious illnesses to cope with at the same time?

It is often so very obvious that they have their own agenda and that the patient doesn't matter to them. They are traumatising people. If his is the result of pressure put on them from above then this is a serious matter which needs addressing.

I have often wondered if it is easier for a nurse in a dr's pracice to become a sister as appears to be he case in Nursing Homes? I often feel that too much is expected of all these people.

Nurses get bullied too and it becomes a vicious circle. I am not saying that I agree with any form of bullying, it is wrong and should not be tolerated. If you are outspoken in the NHS because you do not agree with practices that you see then you have to watch your back all the time. Some nurses just suffer in silence. Many leave the profession.
This article shows that a lot of nurses have a hard time too. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/releases/101249.php

I am sure this is true, as I said in my post. I have seen it happen in nursing homes. As in most professions it is often the most caring and dedicated people who suffer this abuse - for obvious reasons.

The whole concept of the specialist diabetic nurse or doctor in GP's pracices could do with an overhaul. It can't be right that GPs panic when asked a question about diabetes because they rarely encounter a diabetic.
Just as with asthma, for example . being designated specialist does not necessarily indicate a particular interest or knowledge of the subject. I often think they hold hese positions by default or may even have been coerced into them which would explain a great deal.

I imagine he original idea was for the nurse to deal wih the routine cases but in many places she /he is expected to take the place of a consultant..

oh Anna, i am with you on this...i too wake thinking about it and go to sleep thinking about it...wondering why the hell cant i get my sugars under control...i am on diet only for the moment, and trying so hard...lost some weight and just feel awful , i think its the stress and a detox effect from the lack of foods my body is use to,....now if i was on a diet just to lose weight i would give in by now....but knowing i cant makes it very stressfull, always thinking of what i can and cant eat....i guess its going to take a lot of time like evveryone on here says//
plus all the appointments too dont help with the stress (although very important)...i dont think i realised the serioness of diabetes till i was told i had it, then you read about it and BANG it is important to look after yourself and take it serious,

i have just been very naughty and had a bowl of cereal and 8 squares of dark chocolate !!! and i dont feel guilty i just enjoyed it and back on the wagon tomorrow,

how are you through the day? feel ******? i know i do...i think it will take time...i have sent for a book type 2 diabetes The 1st year...hopefully that will help too,
take care (((((hugs)))
Roxy xx
