would this be ok?

I was thinking of making sausages (baked) served with braised red cabbage, baked beans & some slow coked onions (like a marmalade but with balsamic vinegar) & broccoli - does this sound ok for a dinner? is there anything I should include or leave out ???

Check the carbohydrate content of the sausages - you can get some that are only 1 or 2 grams of carb per sausage. Others are quite high in carbs.

The only other query I would have is about the baked beans - all kinds have carbs, some more than others, and anything but a single spoonful spikes my blood glucose. Try the meal, but make sure you test 2 hours after to see what it's done to your blood glucose. If it goes too high, I would think it's the baked beans.

Not sure whether balsamic vinegar has carbs?

Sounds very tasty, though! I might try it but without the beans. Sausages are so useful :D .

I hope you get a meter - push hard for one. I don't know where I'd have been without the means to find out which foods affected me, in the early days. Now I don't need to test anywhere near as much, and usually manage to keep my BGs close to non-diabetic levels - my last HbA1c (the 3-month average test) was 5.2, which is very good! I'm Type 2.

You can use me as an example for your doctor, if you like. Also have a good read of the 'Questions to ask your doctor' - you'll have the link in the info Daisy1 originally posted. If you want to be pro-active with your diabetes and take control, you do need a meter.

Good luck!
