Last night i was sufing and came across this website http://www.xcell-center.com there was a man that was type 11 diabetes Richard Leach who was on insulin and in 2006 had his own stem cells extracted and re-infused and is now taking 60% less insulin each day and has gone back in 2007 for a second treatment. He was not overweight so his diabetes was inherted i think,is this a cure or was his case unusual or could we all have this treatment.you will find his results in the patients column.

PS just taken bg test 17.9mmol at 9.50am i gather this is much too high?

Roger,

It seems very obvious that you are looking for a quick-fix miracle cure. Sorry to disappoint you but there isn't one. Yes, one person has had his own stem cells successfully transplanted. What that clinic doesn't say is how many others had the same treatment and it failed to work. Doesn't the fact that they have had only one success tell you something?

Yes, 17.9 mmol is far too high. It should be below 7mmol.

Incidentally in an earlier post you mentioned that obesity is the cause of type 2 diabetes and asked whether ridding yourself of your own excess fat would "cure" your diabetes. In answer to that I suggest that you read Richard Leach's report again. He was an extremely fit tennis coach and not in the least overweight when he developed diabetes.

There is a view that you commonly see touted in the media that obesity causes diabetes. To the simplistic mind of a journalist it is obvious - more people are obese, more people are diabetic, therefore one must have caused the other. If only life was that simple. We now know that diabetes can be caused by a number of things:
a) overweight
b) insulin resistance
c) impaired insulin production
d) impaired cell transportation
e) incretin inhibition
f) genetic pre-disposition.

It is true that weight plays a significant part in around 80% of cases, but it is not the cause. If it was then why aren't all overweight people diabetic? And what caused diabetes 10 to 20 years ago, before we had a high incidence of obesity?

Ok Dennis maybe there will never be a cure for some ppl as metabolism plays a significant part in Diabetes type 11 but thankyou for helping me understand this awkward disease.

Roger,

I too noticed the Xcell centre website and enquired re type 2 diabetes cure. I received one telephone call and was promised an email response, I am still waiting to hear

ADULT STEM CELL technology is a breakthrough in medicine! Thanks to Ernest McCulloch and James Till and a new research in the stem cell field a new hope for hundreds of thousands ill people is born. Why?

Adult stem cells can develop into other different types of cells in your body. They can be transformed into specialized mature cells such as nerves, muscles or even brain cells. Moreover, therapy with this type of cells is not seen to be controversial because they are not derived from human embryos!

Medicine centers already offer stem cell therapy. Diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, degenerative arthritis, degenerative joint disease and many others can be treated! The main suppliers of Stem Cell Therapies are NuTech Medical, ViaCell, Aastrom Biosciences, Cytori, Geron, Stem Cell Inc., BioE, Aastrom Biosciences, Novocell, Osiris Therapeutics, XCell-Center, Orthofix, Lonza and many others!
