I attended an XPERT course update yesterday. There was a noticeable improvement in some of the advice given. The nurse was still pushing porridge because it breaks down more slowly; but, apart from that, it was a useful update.
Thus was helped by the fact that the nurse was, herself, type 1, so she was talking with the benefit of personal experience.
It was still shocking to see that most of the attendees were still clueless about their condition. One didn't know what Hba1c was. Another was still eating junk. All had high numbers - some worryingly high.
Many had been told they couldn't have meters for completely nonsense reasons. The nurse was supportive and said that everyone should have one, otherwise how can they monitor their condition. She had a CGM and injected herself in front of us to show that we shouldn't be afraid on going on insulin if it becomes necessary.
All in all a useful update. We are definitely making progress, even if it is in small steps

Dr Trudi Deakin was a founder of the X-Pert courses. She wrote the "Eat Fat" book and has contributed to this forum.

My own DN presents/presented the X-Pert courses in my local area. On one of my reviews a year or two ago she had a copy of Trudi's book on her desk. She showed it to me. (I already had a copy) She told me the local course presenters had recently had a refresher training session with Trudi which involved discussions on low carb with high fat and how she was beginning to come round to the idea herself. That was 2 years ago.

Note what it says on the X-Pert website
Our courses are national programmes that fully meet the Department of Health and Diabetes UK criteria to fulfil the National Institute of Health and Care (NICE) guidance.

I think that in order to satisfy the NHS, who she is under contract to, she has to cover a variety of diets including the Eatwell Plate.
