So I have reluctantly been attending the Xpert course prescribed by my GP and am amazed to find that they've changed their advice and are preaching low carb diet as a way to deal with type 2. Apparently the course materials have been completely rewritten with this in mind and although the Eatwell plate was mentioned a couple of times, it was only in passing, with the emphasis constantly being that carbs = increased blood glucose. Sounds like the message is really starting to get through! The course leader has said that she's also been running workshops locally for health professionals who are uninitiated into the low carb approach. She talked about 150g of carbs a day as being a realistic goal, which seems a bit high maybe given what I've read of people's experiences on here. But still!
Seems like good news anyway.
