There is much on this board about lack of encouragement for T2s to self test in some quarters.

I wondered if those PCTs that run the Xpert patient programs are also those who are happy to prescribe test strips.

... Or do all PCTs run the Xpert prog?

My PCT doesn't run any programmes

I should have said that my PCT runs the program *and* it prescribes test strips.

Do you get test strips, hanadr?

Very few PCTs seem to run the Xpert Patient Program and of those that do, some allow test strip prescriptions but many don't. If yours does both then you are very lucky - and very much in a minority.

I buy strips on eBay( I'm an OAP). My PCT allows me 3 packs per year.I( can sometimes wheedle a few more. My GP tells me I'm over controlled though..( Hb A1c 5.6%)

Every patient with a chronic condition should aim to become an expert patient. Its OUR life. We are told on diagnosis that diabetes is a progressive condition, & we are given diet advice that ensures that progression.

Talk (on here) to experienced diabetics who have got control of their condition, & have become experts. Then you can get on with active life, not as a patient, but as one who has a condition that needs monitoring.
