xray times-help?

It seems from reading all these posts that the people with local community/cottage hospitals fare better than those using main hospitals. One reason for this could be that some areas do not have two-way electronic communication. What I mean is, some areas do not have integrated computer systems, so any tests done at a hospital will be on the hospital computer records in a day or two but not conveyed to the GP surgery. This could well be an admin problem. Some areas do have integrated systems, so what appears on a hospital computer screen also appears on the GP's computer screen.
 

Good point. I know our GP's and all GP's are now meant to be sending referrals electronically to consultants in England. So honestly in this day and age how long does it really take to send an xray.
Our delay is being blamed upon extra checks thats are having to take place and delays. I know 10 years ago I had an mri scan done on my head and they wanted me to sign an agreement that my scans would be sent to India to be reviewed. I refused to sign....

I am really concerned as some xrays / mri's -having to wait weeks delays treatments. If smaller cottage hospitals can do this... Why not the larger secondary care hospitals?
 
The beauty with the cottage hospitals is they are manned by mostly local people you bump into in Morrisons.
Truly a community affair and a community feel that's very real.
They have beds for local old folk who may need a a week or a few weeks looking after from a fall or chest infection.
They are truly brilliant and attract local donations and unpaid help and support on a good scale.
 
There's a serious problem with computer information being in touch with across the border.
I attend two hospitals in England .... one in Liverpool one in Oswestry.
If I were to go to AnE tonight anywhere in Wales scans and x-rays blood tests etc done in England will not show up.
 
They lost my 4 yearsedical records from my luving in Wales totally!! I have a total loss of everything in that 4 year period and yet my online records of jabs for vaccines show going back to the 1960's!!!

If it's a normal x-ray then done at cottage hospital and can take the result with you to GP within 10 mins if urgent or if it's a main hospital can be about 3 days.
MRI is a 6 week wait for the scan and no idea how long for the result.

My GP gave me a form to take upstairs to X-Ray where I was given a choice of appointment times. I chose one for two hours later the same day.

After the X-Ray of my shoulder, I was told the result would be available in 7 to 10 days. My GP didn't have it after 7 days but did after 10 (I didn't phone in between times).

This was in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.
 

Is your GP in a hospital? Or cottage hospital?
 
Yes, it is quite a large health centre with several practices in it. They also have physiotherapists and chiropodists who see patients there.

Wow, would you know how many patients are registered at the health centre please?
 
I think there could be around 50,000 patients registered there.

I believe X-Rays are taken at the health centre and then sent to the hospital for a specialist to look at.

Thankyou for the info... Our GP's are signing up to amalgamate in to a Federation so they can offer more enhanced services, so perhaps this is something they may be anle to consider. Fantastic info. Thank you very much.
 
OMG I cannot believe this .... if we have an xray here in Oz we get the xrays and written results in an envelope within a couple of hours to take home/back to the GP, who gets a written result via email probably the next morning.

I cannot see why our systems are so **** bad to be honest.
 
Re all my comments above about community hospitals.

My GP Practice is also in a Health Centre with 2 large practices that cover the whole of my town and surrounding villages. In my Practice there are something like 10 partners, plus registrars and "learners". Each partner has his or her own specialisation, so you can chose whichever GP suits the ailment you are concerned about. A while ago I saw my own GP and mentioned my gammy knee whilst I was there. She examined it then said I should make an appointment to see another GP who is the orthopaedic specialist.

Together with the community hospital up the road from the Health Centre, we have all the facilities possible including in-patients for recuperation after being discharged from main hospital and also for respite. The hospital is GP run but hospital consultants visit for Out Patients appointments. We have chiropody, physiotherapy, clinics for everything you can think of, a treatment room for minor injuries, dressings, stitches, including a mini-theatre for small ops that GP's can carry out with local anaesthetics. (I had a mole removed from my foot there years ago), a dentist, blood clinic, pharmacy, X-ray, and loads of other things. The out of hours doctors are also stationed there. There are more nurses and HCA's than you can count.

If one health authority can do this, why can't the rest?

PS. The community hospital is also brand new - it opened last year, replacing a very old building that was past its sell by date.

Government is what's wrong.
Same as what's wrong with education.
Governments of left right and centre cannot stop interfering.
They have unqualified and often unelected people interfering.
The NHS needs a trimmed down decent management system.
The wards need matrons and nurses.
Matron should be hiring and firing the cleaning staff.
I'm in my sixties and every general election something is going to be done about education.
Something is going to change about education.
It's always a problem.
A problem that is never resolved just experimented with.
We have unqualified people calling the shots.
We have an idiotic system that seems designed to promote idiocy .... idiocy in suits.
