xylitol - sugar substitute

I've just discovered xylitol. I've tried all the sweetners over the years (when trying to lose weight) and they are all universally horrible and leave a nasty taste.

xylitol seems to taste just like sugar in my coffee and cereal.

My first question is.. Is this OK for me, as a T2.

Secondly, if it's OK, then where's the best place to buy it? I've bought a small packet in Sainsburys and I notice they sell the same in Holland and Barrett. But it's fairly expensive compared to normal sugar.

Having no energy as this is so limiting.
Hi Rob

Use with care! I only use it when I make myself a treat - once in a blue moon. :) It is horrendously expensive so I use less than I would use if it was sugar. Nothing in tea or coffee and much reduced in anything else. :)

When I first posted this I was amazed how good it tasted. I'm going off it now as even this has a nasty after taste.

Rob, I read somewhere that Xylitol is bad for you. Of course the little grey cells are not functioning as they should and I can't for the life of me remember where I read it. But if it works for you then go for it!! :D :D
