Hi

I am seriously considering doing the Fastnet Yacht race in August which is a 6 day extreme event. Have any Type1 diabetics done this or similar events? I would be interested to hear how you got on as obviously this is a hard endurance event for non diabetics.

Regards
Sue

Hi Sue

I'm no use what so ever as I don't even have a plastic yacht in the bath. ( had to stop taking baths when the kids started calling me spiderman - not because of super powers but because I had trouble getting out afterwards :) )

Just wanted to wish you every success in your endeavour.
I'm sure someone here will have some ideas for you.

P.S before there are any comments - I shower instead :)

Perhaps you could get some help from Dr Ian Gallen at High Wycombe. There is an account on runsweet about how he supported someone on a 3000mile cross Atlantic rowing race.

NB on runsweet home page it says
Do you have problems with your diabetes and sport? If so ask your G.P. or consultant to refer you to our (England's only) specialized diabetes and sport clinic

I'm sure there is no reason why, with sensible preparation you
can't do it.
Good Luck.
