Yellow stains

Hi there:

Has anyone encountered a yellow stain on shirts/blouses and pillowcases possibly from Metformin? Any answers would be very welcome. I also take Victoza but the stain has been on pillowcases and settee back cushions since before starting on Victoza.
 
I've heard about digestive issues with metformin but that's bad man! :lol:
 
It only seems to come out as a sort of sweat thing - like where your head rests on the top of the settee back or if you get a bit hot during the night and it leaves a yellow mark on the pillow. Otherwise I think the Metformin/Victoza combination is great. I felt bad about the second day I had the injection and from than on things have been pretty good.
 
I've been on Metformin for nearly four years and haven't experienced this. Not on Victoza though.

Yes I know it sounds quite 'manky' but since being on both victoza and insulin, there has been some yellow sweat staining on my pillow!
I use a towel spread across my pillow to reduce the laundry with this! Easier to wash and change the towels...
Plus my sense of smell and taste changes too.
Anyone else had this happen ?
Have been on this combination victoza/levemir since feb 2011.

My wife reminded me I have been producing yellow dye since I started using Metformin which is quite a few years ago and adding Victoza has not made much difference.
As far as Victoza goes I have to say I think it's brilliant. Just once injection a day and done with.
I have read about the new once a week jab but a diabetes nurse practitioner told me the other day that it is a big needle because of the amount of drug which needs to be put in.
So I think I'll stay the way I am.
If I find an answer to the stains I'll let you know.

Hi there: Yes I have... I am so pleased that I looked at this or I would never have known. On my mattress which is mostly white, it has these yellow spots as if someone has sprayed it. I was going to get the steamer on it to see if I could remove it. In fact, I bought a mattress cover due to this thinking somehow it was my breathing that caused it but couldn't really make sense of it.

Now you say this, it's obviously to do with the Metaformin. I take that, so there's the clue! I'm not on that other stuff you mention and now I'm gobsmacked..

Thanks Maudie. The real question though is: Does anyone know how to get rid of the stains. I think I will get in touch with the Metformin manufacturers and put any results I get on here.
 
It might be to do with having diabetes, rather than any particular medication.
People who have diabetic neuropathy are known to experience decreased sweating in their feet but increased sweating in their face and neck. The increased sweating in the upper body is thought to be in compensation for that lost in the lower limbs.
It seems as though that this redistribution of sweat may occur far earlier than any overt neuropathy. Researchers looked at the sweat pattern of people who had been recently diagnosed with T1 (2-20months, age 10-20) and found it to be already evident. They suggest that the that the sympathetic nervous system (that controls sweating) is especially vulnerable to high glucose levels.

The researchers don't suggest how to deal with stains though!

Phoenix , for me you have solved my question and issue.
It totally explains exactly what my body does and even better it explains why!
I never ever used to have sweaty under the arms/neck behind my head since the neuropathy, I HAVE gradually increased with this.
My feet and lower limbs are now often cold and no sweaty feet ever, its only as you explained the upper part of my body I now sweat and with increasingly nights sweats too.
My diabetes still runs with high BG levels for example yesterday fasting was 12.9 , todays fasting was 10.3 , am still high despite cranking up the levemir.
See my DSN 9th nov so will discuss this with her.

Interesting thread!

I too have the sweating, particularly on my head - only when I should be sweating, if you see what I mean, but excessive! I haven't noticed any stains.

I also think my body odour has changed a bit - become slightly acrid. I'm going to change my washing liquid (for my clothes) to see if there's a reaction between my present liquid and my sweat.

As for feet - I have no numbness in mine at all, I pass the touch tests, but while they never feel cold in themselves, they are often cold to the touch. I must remember to do my armchair circulation exercises to keep things moving!

I disagree with Phoenix. My mother-in-law had diabetes for many years uncontrolled. It was not until she started Metformin that the yellow perspiration stains appeared. She does not have neuropathy. The yellow perspiration stains have nothing to do with diabetes and has everything to do with Metformin. The yellow perspiration stains is your body trying to rid itself of the toxic chemicals in Metformin because the body is already overwhelmed with trying to excrete those toxins through the normal pathways of liver & kidneys. I am certain if you asked the pharmaceutical manufacturers of Metformin about this, the question would get round filed. Most of the researchers are biased because they are being paid by the pharmaceutical companies.

Fascinating. I've noticed these yellow'ish stains over the last year and my wife has noticed a slightly different odour. So it looks like my full dose of Metformin may be the cause. I've just Google'd the web and it returned no results on the subject apart from this forum. I wonder if the pharma companies are keeping quiet or it is not a generally recognised problem. I think I'll ask my DN to halve my prescription.
 
I know this is a new reply after a few years but found this thread extremely useful, my wife has been saying that my pillow cases are staining yellow / brown. This has only happened since I have been taking Metformin so relieved to see others experiencing this problem too and it's not just me.! PS She says what's best to get rid of the stains lol
