Hi all

Been doing his for two weeks and lost weight really well. But yesterday and today I feel like ****. Not sure I can carry on like this. Stomach cramps, aching limbs and feel lifeless. Really need some views on it.

Thanks

Hi. Is it possible you have tried to lose weight too fast? How many carbs/day are you having? Are you having enough protein, fats, veg and so on to balance the low-carb?

Some people can get "carb flu" -sugar/carb withdrawal symptoms for a short while after starting on a low carb diet. Have a Google for symptoms of this, and also drink plenty of fluids, keep up your salt intake, and do as @Daibell suggests and make sure you're eating a proper balanced low carb diet.

Your symptoms are common, but they could have been brought on for many reasons.

First, hardly any of the weight you've lost over the past 2 weeks is from fat loss. Almost all of it is from your body retaining less water and your body having less carbs/food in your digestive system. I say that not to discourage you, but to prevent you from being discourage in the future when your weight loss slows (2lbs/1kg or less per week is considered healthy weight loss).

As far as your symptoms. They could be the cause of your body finally entering a ketogenic state (it can take some longer than others). It could be because your total caloric intake is too low (that's where the "high fat" part of the diet comes into play). It could be because you've eaten differently for so long and your body is taking time to acclimate to the new change.

For me, the stomach symptoms tell me that my body has reached ketosis. It happens all at once and usually goes away in a few hrs. Lack of energy/feeling poorly is usually from not eating enough calories.

Remember that you're making some huge changes to how your body functions and it's not going to fix itself overnight. Your symptoms shouldn't last more than a day or two and if they're still continuing you may want to see a doctor to make sure it's not something else.

Hi, newly diagniosed (5th Oct) Type 2. My fasting blood sugar was 16, going to the toilet every 45-60 minutes through the night, tired, sluggish etc etc. From 142 kg I am now down to 115kg - 61 lbs in old money - never felt better - on a low carb diet. I use the glycemic index to decide what to eat. My choices are a bit limited but I don't go hungry. meat, fish, poultry, eggs, BACON, green veg, onions, garlic, tomatoes and peppers - mainly with cheese, nuts and the occassional crumpet as a treat. The best way to go. The worset thing that ever happened to this country's health was when we switched from fats to carbs in the 70's. We used to have adverts for cream cakes on tv (naughty but nice) and we went to work on an egg. Now all we do is eat 5 a day - all fruit - sugar crashes throughout the day, and right there, just right there is where the problems start. Keep it up - it will work - and drink lots of water to flush your kidneys out. (lighter, better, healthier, lower blood pressure, BS 5.6 and my clothes fit. Keep it up
