How to do a basal check?

Hi guys,

I've been on an insulin pump for a few months now and am trying to tweak my basal rates to get everything perfect. I love my pump, it's made such a huge difference to my control.

I have been struggling to keep my BG within range overnight and BG testing has shown a steady increase in levels between 9pm and 7 am (when I wake up and correct it).

When adjusting insulin rates, how much should I adjust by? I know its trial and error to an extent, but what sort of increase would be a good place to start? is 10% more insulin too much?

Also, if the high results are starting at 9pm ish, when should I start to increase the levels of insulin? i'm assuming before 9 pm?

thanks in advance for any advice!

Nomi :)

The link that @robert72 has provided explains it well how how should do a basal check, my own pump nurse says that you should adjust the basal rate 2 hours before you notice the change, so in your example @Nomi that would be 7pm.
