Hi All

Just did a quick search and found a few famous sufferers of diabetes...some are quite surprising and inspiring!

-Halle Berry
-Chris pennel (only pro rugby player to have it)
-Gary Mabbutt (ex footballer)
-Sir Steve Redgrave
-Stephen Dixon (sky news presenter)
-Brian Cox (actor)
-Tom Hanks
-Jonny Cash
-Aretha Franklin
-George Lucas
-Nick Jonas
-Jean Smart (actress)
-Anne Rice (author)
 
Also Brett Michaels from the band Poison , James Norton who recently starred in the BBC's War & Peace, Mari Wilson the singer and also has a column in DUK's Balance magazine (sorry mainly only know type 1's).

Halle Berry 'reversed her type 1' by exercise and sticking to a strict diet. Read that somewhere ages ago, p*ssed me off quite a bit.

Yes, there's a lot about that all over the internet. From what I remember, she had mistakenly miscategorised her diabetes. I'm not sure if she's ever given a proper confirmation or statement about it.

ETA: I read she had Type 2 soon after I was diagnosed, and then that somehow changed to Type 1.

She hasn't and it caused a huge amount of controversy in the US.
 
Yes I read about that too! I wasnt long diagnosed and this hollywood star could reverse hers?? Nope definitely not, she must have been type 2!
 
So I was listening to Steve Wright. (Radio 2 DJ.) waffling to "guest" Mary Berry. (Satan's cake mix & laterday ***** Craddock.) on the drive home today..
Subject of fresh fish (Chips were mentioned.) by Berry..
Wright mentioned he was on a "low carb diet" even cutting the carbs making his own cauliflower rice..
Berry replied "oh your very trendy". Then warned about "butter on the fish." Then the waffle moved on...

So I thought.. Hmmmm. Fish. & is Steve Wright diabetic then...?!

A quick Google & he is..
 
Oh very interesting! I think in the Godfather films either robert de niro or al pacinos character is diabetic!
 
I wonder, do you think Halle originally referred to her diabetes using the old-fashioned definition of type 1? I.e. just meaning 'insulin dependent' rather than 'autoimmune'.
