so from the events i've been to they main focus is parents with children who are type one, and type 2.
There don't seem to be as much support for people past 18.

Would you like more support or are you happy being left to it?
would you attend meetups-groups?
what would you like to see be done about the support for adults & young adults with type one.

I reckon there should be some sort of 'Buddy' system, where newly diagnosed T1s could be put in touch with someone who's been living with it and controlling it for a while. I'd happily volunteer to be a buddy, and it would have been brilliant to have someone to get advice from who actually knew what they were talking about. I would attend meet ups but they're all for T2s around these parts.

Angus in Scotland, I'm going to mention it on my next MOT, but it's been 13 months since my last one, wonder if that means I'm unroadworthy........

Some hospitals have buddy systems but it would be great if brought in as a National Option.

My local hospital has meetings to include patients for all gastro problems to improve services and listen... But nothing for diabetics....

I met a young lady today that has been diabetic since 8 and being 16 years on and wanting a pump. High erratic levels but has been so off put by hospital consultants that she will only go to a GP now and with hba1c of 9+ obviously isn't mastering it with a GP....

It is so sad..

I've recently joined meetup app n groups in my new area and wondering whether to organise something locally for all diabetics...but not via diabetes websites....

the thing is with organising meet ups & stuff like that is you'd find a certain ammount of people would come for the first month or two then not bother

what we need is hospital support in this part so they can inform patients ect or let us host our events in they waiting room :)thanks for the input.

That's a very good idea, it can take a very long time to thoroughly educate yourself about the condition. The hardest thing is living and breathing it hour by hour, until the point where we've accepted that as individuals can you really get on top of it, like brushing your teeth twice a day and going to the toilet, it's our lifestyle and something that just has to be done.

Great idea.

I met up with some type 1s on Thursday who eat LC and honestly it's was great to see other people test their glucose, talk about their experiences and learn really good tips from them. This forum is great but also having face-to-face meet-ups is also great, not just for information but morale in dealing with type 1.

I made a suggestion previously that we work with clinics to advertise forum meet ups. If we organise one in London, we ask permission to provide flyers to people in London d clinics to tell them where it's at. I doubt many would turn up, but it would be a start.

I know the South Hants area runs the "Sugarbuddy" scheme, which seems to be what you are taking about.

it's time we take a stand i'm from the cymru area so i guess the england side i can't help with as much but will try my best we need to fix this so us diabetics have friends who are just like us!
