I love this guy - way ahead of his time and knew so much.

Found his channel on YouTube and thought I'd share but the link is randomly taking me to pepa pig!
 
He thinks 83 mg/dl (4.6) is the proper blood sugar level ... My lowest has been 5.1, averaging 5.5 to 6.5 whether pre or 1.5 hrs post-prandial. Still need some work to do ...

Thanks so much for posting this. Read his book at the same time as being told to stuff myself with carbs by HCPs, whose advice I naturally ignored.

Just like my diabetic nurse thinks my hba1c of 6.8 was good

I have to say that if he thinks 4.6 is the 'proper' sugar level then he is wrong. Be a little careful with these popular Drs. Much of what they say may be OK and make sense but many start to add unproven additions to their mantra; always look for the scientific evidence.

My mistake, the better word is that "proper" should be "ideal", which is the title of the video. Ideal for him because non-diabetics he tested, in his experience, had 4.6.

At 5.1 to 6.4 (pre-prandial), and 6.4 (1.5 hours post-prandial), my doctor was happy for me, and I am as well. He'll probably be happier if I have 4.6 post-prandial, and I do hope I can get it one day, someday. At the moment, hypo is alien to me.

He is right
 
The man is brilliant, and has saved so many lives. He's not one of "these popular doctors." He's a diabetes clinician with 40 years' clinical experience.

And he is right about true normal blood sugars.

My own way of looking at the 4.6/83 FBG is it is the "super healthy range" - and a figure to gaze at with wonder and awe! I also have "non-diabetic" for those super healthy figures in my little book with the numbers, and of course I am hugely admiring of diabetic folk who can get their BG down to non-diabetic levels, but alas, this has been beyond my own liver/pancreatic abilities. But that may not be, er, uncommon, amongst folk in a diabetes forum! ;):).

Just for interest - the rest of the figures for "super healthy non-diabetic" are:
Premeal- 90 mg/dL / 5.0 mmol/L
1 hour postmeal - 140/7.8
2 hour postmeal - 100-120/5.6-6.7
3 hour postmeal - 90/5.0
No readings over 140/7.8

Yeah. For me - wonder and awe!

Anyway, finally got below 5 yesterday for the 1st time, 4.8 just before dinner. Having a low BMI, i'm worried about LADA, and hope i don't get to that.

Will continue to watch dr bernstein's tips, at least for info applicable to type 2.

This is what he sets out in his book. Combined with low carb. It means less insulin required and errors and mistakes are minimised. Saw a video by Troy Stapleton saying his control has improved.
