Hi
My blood sugars are taking ages to go down after eating. They can hit mid 10's and 6 hours later are 9 or 10.
I try to eat a low carb diet and eat reduced portions to aid in weight loss.
I have Rheumatoid arthritis and CKD caused by metformin. I take Gliclazide and other tablets for High bp cholesterol Water Tablets and Tramadol. Used to take an NS anti inflammatory but because of the Kidney Desease have had it stopped. I also take tablets for an enlarged prostate. I am on Novomix 30 twice a day 50 units in the morning and 40 units at tea time

Hi Mikey. A wee bit more info would help. When were you diagnosed and what was the initial result? You say you are trying to eat low carb...and I know it can be very difficult...but what are you still eating that's say more than 10g of carb in every 100g? You say you were on an anti-inflammatory for CKD but not when it stopped and the CKD started. I had a kidney transplant a year ago, and got diabetes after that from the steroids. Some BP pills can definitely raise levels - what are you on? Not sure about Tramadol either. Any other meds you haven't mentioned? It would help to know your levels before eating. What is your HbA1c test or your estimated average? One more thing..are you drinking plenty of fluid? I drink 2.5 to 3 litres a day since the transplant and should have done so before. It's very important for you as dehydration not only raises the blood sugar level..it also harms your kidneys. Sounds like a combination of meds, fluid intake, still too many carbs and the stress of it all. each can be tackled, but more info would help. My levels were initially around 20.5. On gliclazide and with changes to diet that came down to anything between 8.5 and 15.5, but very low carbs and good fluid intake (and no more Gliclazide) brought it down to the pretty normal range and it only jumps above 7.0mmols now if I don't drink enough or if I eat a small amount of simple carbs (eg. cereal, bread, crackers etc).
