Ladies blood sugar and mirena coil help please.

I had my mirena coil fitted in Dec 2015. I recently had it removed after 3 weeks of bleeding and intense pain. GP discovered an ultrasound had dislodged it. Since removal I have noticed a huge drop in my blood sugars. Hoping to have it reinserted on Thurs. Has anyone else found this or got some advice please? I follow LCHF diet as insulin resistant. Thanks.
 
I have no experience of mirena coil but I can track my hormonal changes throughout the month by tracking my blood glucose levels (BGL) readings. I always get a raised BGL for a few days a month no matter how low carb I go, but other symptoms have greatly improved since going low-carb. Since the mirena releases hormones continually I wouldnt be surprised if it affected BGL.

I have no experience of the device so can't comment on that, but if you spent 3 weeks under physical and mental pressure ("bleeding and intense pain"), that could have impacted on your bloods. You could also perhaps have been less energetic, not to mention changes in diet when we're feeling a bit "off".

What sort of numbers were and are you seeing Lauren? Did you notice any changes with you had it fitted in December? Do you take any medication for your diabetes?

I'm sure others will comment, but the only way you'll really know is if you have it replaced and give it time to settle, as the insertion procedure could have an impact for a few days.
 
Was always around 5.5-6 consistently. 30 day AgaMatrix average of 5.6. Now seeing 3.0-5.0. 30 day AgaMatrix average down to 5. Only started monitoring sugars in Feb. Wondering if ibuprofen pushed them higher than normal and now feeling the drop?
 
Don't currently take medication. Once I start I'll never be able to stop as high chance of my pancreas packing up. Trying diet approach for now and it seems to be working.
 
I would agree that the raised bgs were likely to be the pain and stress - that kind of thing certainly impacts me.

Possibly a bit unrelated to this original topic, so apologies, but why would you believe that medicinal support would hasten pancreatic failure?

Don't think I am promoting taking medication, as I personally, would rather not, I'm just rather curious. :)

Advice from dietician, GP and endocrinologist. I also used to have alcohol issues and have a slightly dodgy pancreas.

Ah, OK. That would be a good reason in itself to try to keep the numbers in a decent place. Fewer rises mean less insulin required to deal with them, therefore a "rested" pancreas. That's the time it gets a chance to do what repair it can.

Are you trying to watch your diet at all? If so, what sort of personal plan are you working to?

I do LCHF despite dietician saying its wrong. Lost 2 stone in 2 months.

Very, very well done. I didn't do too much on the High Fat aspect, but just swapped from low fat to full milk yoghurt etc. It was only when I got close to being my "need to stop losing weight", weight that I added more fat.

I found my insulin resistance got significantly better, although my waist was the last bit of me to get really trim. I hope you find the same for the IR.
 
My waist has shrunk lots but my boobs are still huge. Stomach shrinking quite nicely as well. I no longer eat low fat either. Defo seen my sugars stabilise.

Whichever bit you want to shrink will be sure to be the last bit. That seems to be how it always works! Well done though.

Another low day. Spoke to dsn and apparently I'm having a phantom pregnancy. But hopefully it'll disappear when I have the next one inserted on Thurs.

My blood sugars are affected more so by my periods/cycles than my IUD. I have a Mirena as well, and my sugars stayed the same as long as I was off my period. My blood sugars have been running low, though this is almost my 3rd year on my IUD with no removal, so maybe it's just my body finally adjusting to the hormones. Maybe your sugars are affected by the change in hormones produced? I'm no expert so I'm not sure. I will add that my sugars spiked when I got it put in, though I was taking tons of ibuprofen and resting due to the pain and such.

Lauren - Your profile suggest you have prediabetes. Have you done any reading on reactive hypoglycaemia? Forgive me if I missed a lot of your postings where you talk about some of these things.

I've found mine go high on period and then go low. But I take tons of ibuprofen when on period as in pain. Generally I've felt better since insertion along with LCHF.
 
I don't know about my sugar levels with it, but I didn't want to kill my husband every month! I loved it, especially as I sailed through the menopause with no symptoms! Menopause, what menopause

How marvellous! I can only pray it works like that for me!!!
 
I'm not at menopause yet. But its much better than depoprovera injection every 12 weeks. Hormones were awful on it. My husband is also still alive despite being highly irritating!!
