I'm feeling very despondent about my diabetes at the moment.
I was diagnosed 3 years ago and had good control for a while - I was following a low carb diet at the time. I lost some weight, but the down side of it was that my irritable bowel syndrome became uncontrollable. (Eggs, Meat & dairy are my triggers).
So I've tried various modified diets since, all of which have failed. My hba1c has crept up over time, and I'm now on metformin, Lixisenatide injections, and recently Gliclazide was added to the mix.
It's the Glic that has, well, ruined me. I was warned about the weight gain side effect, and I was so sure that wouldn't happen to me. I am very active, walk loads, and swim loads. Prior to starting on the glic, I was on a losing streak and was sort of happy with my weightloss progress... now I'm over a stone heavier, and I cannot control my cravings.
I feel sluggish, tired, and verging on a little bit of depression because I wake up ravenous, and spend most of the day pondering my next meal and I hate being so blooming obsessed with food.
I need to break out of this feeling, and need to take control once more. I also need to find a way to make low carb work with my dodgy digestion... any ideas?
Has anybody here managed to lose weight whilst on gliclazide, and if so, how? Any tips would be greatly received!
