Hi all, I have my PM settings set to Only Members can PM me (it is in the Privacy section of your profile). The reason I have it set like that is I kept getting unsolicited PMs from people who wanted to ask questions that would be better dealt with on the forum - it isn't cos I am an anti-social person. Well, not much. ;)

If you have problems PMing, you can always ask the person to temporarily turn their PM settings on, start a PM and then they can turn them off again after. Or go Members only, like I have.

I know some people have had problem PMs, some argumentative, some inappropriate, but if that ever happens to me, I just IGNORE the person. Problem solved.

There is something not right with my pm and blog settings and I'm getting it looked at!
Hope it's not painful!

HAs anyone heard of diabetes, pre-diabetes or any other related condition triggering food intolerances: dairy, fruit, sugar, fatty stuff and carbs. I eliminated all those today and NO indigestion, No nausea. But it's one day. Is sugar the common denominator?
Doc says hyperinsulin can't trigger intolerances, as usual, am a little lost. Hope you all are feeling good. Brunneria, could you list the supplements you are taking again? Many thanks and sorry to all for being a pain. I'm usually a very happy person when my health is ok.

No worries.
I get bg spikes that are out of proportion for the actual grams of carbs in the food (milk does this, and grains). So I have pondered if food intolerances blocks/delays my body actually recognising that I have eaten carbs.

Haven't pursued this because no matter what my findings, the effect would be the same - avoiding the foods that cause the problems!

I am currently on Vit D3, K2, chelated magnesium, potassium, chromium picolinate, alpha lipoic acid, krill oil (omega 3s) and a b complex. I also take vit C and zinc in the form of effervescant tablets by Sambucol.

I'm considering CoQ-10 and digestive enzyme trials too... but have not yet started.

Please don't assume you need any, or all of those! check each one out carefully, and assess yourself. Also, bear in mind that if you introduce too many changes as once you won't have a clue which (if any) are making a difference.

I ended up taking all these because, over about 3 years, I have read and investigated, and tried them out. I think for me, the D3/K2 have made the biggest difference. Although it is lovely not having cramps and muscle weakness any more (pot and mag). The others... less experiential evidence and more hope. ;)

I don't think it's the condition that triggers the food intolerance. In believe it's the food that triggers the insulin. Or your signals that trigger the insulin.
Your trigger whatever it is causes the pancreas to give you the insulin.

Glucose is ok in small amounts in your blood, too much insulin resistance and high blood glucose is not! And the same for insulin.

You have to get the balance right and low carb does it. So yes, sugar is a baddie denominator but so are carbs, even low GI carbs, it's finding out what you can tolerate and doesn't give you a spike.

This is where a good food diary comes in and you can monitor what's happening with your readings.

I know it's a lot to get your head around but knowledge is key to getting control.
Once you know what foods are doing this to you, you just don't eat them.

Lots to think about, I've done a lot of thinking and studying and experimenting and I think I've nearly got it after nearly three years.
Don't forget it is for life, it is a marathon not a sprint.

Hi,

THanks! I'm on Vit D for breast issues, magnesium and have had iron shots because was really tired. I know nothing about K2, please share if you like to. What is it and what does it do. I have had Omega 3 in the past, (very good). I saw that magnesium was making a difference. Funnily enough, all this mess started at the end of last year, when I stopped my multivitamins and decided to just 'eat' normally.
Bodies are so complex. I'm back on multivitamins and will see if there's any change. THanks so much to all of you for being there.
I'll know more tomorrow when I see the metabolic doctor (obesity doc) and then Thursday with the pancreatic specialist. I live in the land of specialists, medical students don't want to become GPs, they all want to become specialists.....

But as I said elsewhere, I will be forever grateful to a NHS GP, who saved my life when I was a child

Best

If you are taking Vit D3 then you need K2 to make use of it.

I find it astonishing that this is not more widely known! Have a google for 'Mercola Vit D3' articles, and you will find out he spends as much time talking about K2 as he does D3. I wouldn't take the first without the second.

Ok, met with metabolic-obesity doc who said that my insulin levels weren't off the charts in comparison to other heavier obese women. THe insulin basal norm is 15, Im at 19, he sees women at 30 or 40! So for him, no insolinoma. He's going to do the GTT over 5 hours, taking bloods for insulin and glucose every 15 min which will give us a better idea of my glucose tolérance. Confirmed I'm not diabetic and he'll check the pre diabetic. He thinks my problems might come from a lack of pancreatic enzymes and will test that. The next step is to go to the pancreatic doc and to get these specialists talking to each other. Things are moving...... More tomorrow. Cant explain my thirst though ....?!?

Do you know why they are doing a prolonged glucose test? Can't remember wether you have had one before!
The bloods will give them all sorts of tests to do including the ones you mentioned plus c peptide and gad tests.
I'm glad you are not diabetic but you do have an insulin imbalance even a slight one.
Things are progressing at a pace now.
Are you ok going through these tests?
You were very wary, but so far so good eh?
When eventually you get your diagnosis, and they offer treatment, be wary of what they propose food wise. As most of these guys know the risks of hypos and excess insulin. And will probably recommend carbs. Until you find your triggers and get good control you are always in danger of going up and down and suffering hypos.
Usually extreme thirst is high glucose. But could be high insulin. But I'm guessing!
What happens tomorrow?

Meeting with pancreatic docs. Yesterday was metabolic. Our médical system is totally different than yours. They are doing a prolonged test to get the full picture of what is going on. Im fed up but need to get to the bottom of this. I still Want an endoscopic ultrasound but i think i could get the docs to it. They believe the food intolerances stem from the exocrine part of the pancreas, the pré diabetes and insulin from the endo part. I Want a surveillance plan put in because still scared about pancreatic cancer. With only 5% of survivors, you can understand why Im so scared. Food intolerances and indigestion are Early signs of that which is why they did the MRI but still told me that sometimes we need ôther methods to, to be sure. But lets see later today and thanks a million for standing by me, tis invaluable

It's only because I went through all this with only my endocrinologist knowing what all the tests were for. In my case, my bloods came back clear of anything except my excess insulin.
Hang in there, they will tell you soon enough.

Right endoscopy clear, but at my request they have agreed to do the endoscopic ultrasound just to make sure There s no pancretitis or small tumor. If they find nothing, They Will give me some pancreatic enzymes to help with digestion. Blood tests are good. Then as You say, i need to avoid triggers! Great docs, really pleased and feel safe

I'm good, bank holiday weekend off and going to try and enjoy it!

Trying to lose that extra weight, will find out later if I have succeeded, if only I could drop that first few pounds!
