I'm curious to know the frequency of DN visits with other forum users.

My DN wants to see me every two months

Mine sees me when I want, although the normal would be every two months as yourself. She has given me her Mobile No to contact any time and recently I got an appointment within 48 hrs after an out of hrs call to her.

Same system with my Endo, although I see him every 3 months. Lately been more frequently. Same deal with phone etc. A great team, very supportive !

I visit every four weeks until the end of Feb because I`m on trial to see if I can manage my BG with diet and exercise so its crunch time on one month .

So how is it going Kate? My own crunch time is the middle of Feb and I am hopeful that I will not have to go on any meds. :)

So far so good thanks ! Am getting between 5 and 5.5 fasting and between 5.8 and 6.8 two hours after meals , brill ! Have been cutting the carbs but eating dairy and yet cholesterol has gone down to 3.7 from 6.8 and best of all , lost a stone in a month ! Loads of luck to you too xx

I visit in a formal sense only every 6 months (for pump clinic), but I have mobile, office and pager numbers and email addresses for both DSN and consultant, all of which I've used at one point or another. A great team in fact. :D

Not very often, about every 6 months. Suits me fine as I like to manage my own diabetes, but I like the reassurance of my check-up to know that I am on the right track. When I get my results, and my dsn is happy and I am satisfied, I just go on my way until my next review.

The last 6 months I have spent more time with my care team, due to changes in my diet and adjustment in insulin, and of course when I did my DAFNE course in October. I do envy those people like Kegstore and Cugila who have a more personal relationship with their dsn.

Its interesting to read about how varied it is in the UK, here (in France) it's very different

I don't see a specialist nurse except on courses but with 10 days in hospital and a further 10 days of courses in five years I've actually seen quite a lot of her. (I can even almost understand her now, her local accent is so strong that I still have nightmares of her speaking to me on the first day in hospital and understanding absolutely nothing).
The nurse from the company that supplied my pump and pump disposables visits the house about every 4 months and phones to check there are no problems from time to time.
I saw my diabetologist every month at the start but now only every 6 months . I have an Hb A1c done every 3 months, with other blood tests at six .The results are sent to me as well as the doctor so I can read them through before I see her.I have her mobile number and can always contact her if theres a problem and it's always possible to make an appointment at quite short notice,
I've also got the numbers to contact the duty, diabetologist in an emergency at night or at the weekend. (there are only 2 of them and I know them both quite well by now)

I see the DN at the GP surgery officially once a year, but I arrange an inbetween for every 6 months. Then if I need help with anything, I can arrange an appointment. I actually bumped into her as she was going in and Iwas coming out ater collecting a prescription the other day.
Our PCT works on annual reviews.
Still my nurse is always available if needed.

Based on previous threads, I believe that the norm is for an annual review, with a 6 month check, reduced to 3 months following treatment changes such as medication dosage or drugs. I am now down to 6 months, but I do insist on a 3 month blood test for Lipids, GFR/creatine (kidney function), liver function and of course HBA1C.

Steve,

I love the way you say that you insist on three monthly tests! Way to go! :D 8)

Thanks for all the feedback folks; very useful. 8)

i visit every 6mnths for hba1c, but can phone to see her anytime i need to :D

I seem to have slipped under our local diabetes clinics radar for a while. After spending an hour or two with a very good diabetic nurse in hospital on diagnosis I didnt see another one for about 5 months when I phoned to ask when I would have another HB A1c and was told they had no record of me!!

Since then though I have had an appointment about every 6 weeks, I had to ask to see a dietitian, who I actually saw yesterday and found her most helpful, it would have been nice to have seen one much sooner although I found out most of her advice through the books Id read and forums like this one.
