Why has my hair changed

I was on tablets before now I am in insulin I wash my hair and by the next day it looks greasy why is this and my skin has gone dry My hair and skin were alright when I was on tablets

Forgive the joke, I couldn't resist it. One day I think that people will look back on the medication we receive today and shudder. We get pains, we get greasy hair, we get dry skin and a myriad of other things but the benefits of the medication seem rarer than the adverse side effects.

I feel this is a particular concern where people are medicated in case they get get a problem. The only problem they have is the pills they take.

It may just be hormonal changes that occur all our natural lives... May have nothing to do with the insulin but I would check that you are getting a good lot of vitamins and minerals in your diet...

I started an insulin regime 4 weeks ago and I have noticed the same issue with my hair, I think it's just our bodies and hormones adjusting. I wondered if it might even be connected to thyroid function in some way? Other than that I feel so much better on insulin that I can live with it

Have you changed your diet at all?[/No diet is the same When I was put on the insulin I got dry skin dry eyes that I have to spray before bed every night and greasy hair I have asked the doctor they don't know have check thyroid kidney and all fine

Had thyroid check its fine The difference between the insulin and the tablets is the insulin keeps my blood sugar levels down better than the tablets My levels are 5-6 on insulin but were above 10 on tablets Was told I was placed on insulin as I did not produce enough insulin on tablets

Doc checked my diet fine it's fine on vitamins and minerals I drink lots of fluid as well

It may be hormonal imbalances .I recommend you keep a supply of dry shampoo or baby powder. Dry shampoo can be harmful if used too much so baby powder is a great remedy! It soaks up moisture and is great to apply quickly in the morning. Also try henna ,besides it can make great natural color. It can make hair more dry especially when mixed with lemon juice during washing head.

Its actually quite common when on insulin to have dry skin especially on the face. Loads of moisturizing is the best advice.
We each react to insulin in different ways unfortunately, I suffer from exceedingly dry skin and dry hair whilst on insulin. My specialist just advises to moisturize frequently

Hi, I was on tablets for nine years and changed to insulin three months ago. Still felt ill even though blood sugar control was better. I still take metformin Sr. 2000mg a day with Lantus solo and novo rapid . Had more bloods done and found I was deficient in B12 which is a side effect of metformin. Had my first injection last week and what a difference in my hair and skin. But annoyingly you have to request a specific blood test for B12 it is not one of the routine ones. Good luck!

Maybe the insulin is just affecting your hormones, when I was diagnosed as type 1 when I was 2 all of my hair started falling out and stopped growing properly for quite a few months my mum tells me! I'm 30 now and have more hair than I know what to do with! Fingers crossed it all settles down x

I've noticed now that my hair now gets greasier much quicker, and others have commented that my hair seems to be thinner (and it was pretty fine to start with). I suspected a thyroid issue, but apparently that is fine. Dry shampoo has now become an essential for me.

I can't say I've noticed about my hair doing that because I have always washed my hair everyday for years anyhow. I know some say that you shouldn't do that, but I use hair products so I like to wash it out. I haven't noticed any damage to my hair either... my hairdresser sees me every 5 weeks and tells me how healthy my hair is and I have a lot of it. I don't use conditioner on my hair because the hair products I use puts oils in my hair. I have naturally fine and soft hair too so I don't need that. I used to use it years back and found it put too much oil in my hair and it was difficult to handle. I used to have long hair and I'd break a lot of things in my hair for that reason.. too soft, too thick, and oily from the conditioner. I'd wind up using a tonne of hairspray trying to get clips to stay in my hair.

I do suffer from dry skin though and I have never thought about what the cause of that is. But I need to moisturise more often than I used to when I was younger. My feet and legs tend to dry out the most. I've always moisturised my face, neck, etc... so they're usually ok.
