Diabetes And The Menopause - Very Erratic Sugars

Hi

I have had diabetes for 38 years and its never been easy to control, but the last year I have been going through the menopause and it is just getting so unpredictable. Does anyone have any advice of natural or other products that can help? The diabetes centre does not seem to have much knowledge and says I need to "muddle through". My sugars can go from 18 down to 2 in less than an hour sometimes, and then the same in the other direction. I use the libre and think without this I would have ended up in hospital many times. Up until a week ago the only part of the graph that was more or less constant was overnight where I would gently drop down until around 5 am (being about 6mmol at this time) and then gently rise up to about 7/8 when I got up. But for the last week, it has been crashing up and down all through the night, going as low as 2.5 at times. Anyone else's experience of menopause would be very welcome. Thanks

You might not be surprised to learn that I cannot offer much in the way of practical advice!

However, you might like to check this information page whilst you wait for some more knowledgeable people to stop by.

Thank you, yes I had read that, and it was helpful, but was hoping to find some tips from others who had been through this and come out the other side unscathed! :)

I have just been diagnosed type 3c Insulin dependant. So far the BS readings are like you say - wildly erratic and many of my menopausal symptoms are similar to hypo symptoms. I have been able to work out the difference now. I thought it was just because I was new to the treatment. It's not encouraging to think this might go on for years. I did try progesterone cream for hot flushes but its as much hassle as injections as you have to keep changing the part of the body you use and I didn't notice any difference that made it worthwhile.

Thanks for your reply. Yep, quite scary this could go on for a while. :( I am scared to go to sleep at night as my sugars seem to drop so low, and then bounce back several times overnight, all while I am sleeping and not aware! Hope it settles down for both of us very soon!
