Refuse to take my insulin

I've been diabetic for 5 years. And have other health issues too. A couple of months ago the doctors put me back on insulin. But I hate it and refuse to take it. Ive put it weight with it and feel horrible and sluggish. So I've stopped for the past couple of weeks. Still taking my antidepressants but I'm sick of taking loads of meds and I want to stop altogether.
 
@Jaspreet Sorty you're feeling so down. Diabetes is hard, especially when you have other things going on with your health.

Can you tell us a little more? How are your blood sugar results? What do you normally eat in a day?

Equally importantly, have you asked your doctor about other medicatikn you could take along with insulin or asked about a change of insulin regime?

What insulin(s) were you taking and when?
 
Hi there, to stop your meds is of course your choice, however it may not be a good choice but possibly the result of frustration and burnout. I am wondering if you have tried a low carb diet? If done right it may eliminate the need for those meds, including the insulin and help to lose the weight. It really depends on how well your pancreas is functioning. I will tag @daisy1 to send you some information that is given to newcomers that you might find of interest. The forum members are here to answer any questions or just listen and give support if that is what you need.

I was on humilin I kwick pen and metoformin. I had 2 strokes 3 years ago and I have sle (autoimmune disorder) IM supposed to take 8 tablets a day everyday and 21 on a Sunday on top of the insulin. Just had enuf of it all.

I haven't checked my levels as I don't want to know it. How does everyone cope?
 
I'm not on insulin but do take a lot of meds and at times feel as you do and toy with the idea of just stopping, but then think of what my life would be like without them or even how long I would survive if I didn't take them so I grit what's left of my teeth and take them. You of course have to decide for your self but try to consider what your life would be like if you discontinued with them and also please discuss any decision with your doctor before hand.

I just want to feel like a normal person.

I believe that's a slow-acting, background insulin. Some Type 2s on insulin find a basal/bolus regime suits them better. It's more injections but it's more like your body would do if it wasn't diabetic. I may also allow you to match the insulin more closely to your food so as to not gain weight.

You may be thinking that that sounds like too much hassle, but it's not. It's work, yes, but it can smooth your blood sugars out, help with weight, and make you feel a little better in yourself.

Worth a try, I'd say : )

I work 10 hour shifts 7 days a week. I know I don't eat right most sandwiches.
 
Lupus is a terrible thing to have to deal with. I have severe psoriasis and the accompanying arthritis and must take immune suppressants to function. The flip side of this is always getting sick and infections. I understand why you have had enough and I have been there. Dealing with the diabetes in addition to everything else seems like just one straw too many on the pile. The problem is that if you stop dealing with things they just get worse and you end up with even more things to deal with. This is a good place to vent and most people here will understand and support. I hope you have someone close to talk to but if there is anything we can do to help please ask.

I can't comment on your other illnesses, but I do send you mynsympathy. It's horrible being ill.

With the diabetes, if you can get your blood sugar in range, it will help so much. High blood sugar can make you feel lethargic, irritable, exhausted, and give you unpleasant short term and long term effects.

You asked how we do it. For me, it's sheer determination that I'm not going to let the stupid diabetes beat me

There are lots of people here who understand what it's like. You're not alone.
 
I don't have anyone to talk to. Don't dare tell my parents or let my 21 year old son find out. I'm just going thru it on my own.

If its not too intrusive, may I ask why you can't let your son know? You may be surprised how supportive your children can be.
 
Sounds like he loves you. Why not give him the chance to show it. I have 2 sons aged 26 and 28, they are amazing young men, I bet your son is too.
