Meaning of LCHF

Like the lads say, 100% virgin olive oil is not so bad!

Try fried eggs in goose fat or coconut oil.

Ah Nosher after a little research I found evidence to back you up! - http://www.fourwinds10.net/siterun_data/health/food/news.php?q=1370433606 - You have to scroll a bit though!

Insects won’t eat it.

Some typical and possible side effects include loss of vision, disruption of the central nervous system, respiratory illness, anemia, constipation, increased incidence of heart disease and cancer, low birth weights in infants and irritability.

Generally rapeseed has a cumulative effect, taking almost 10 years before symptoms begin to manifest. It has a tendency to inhibit proper metabolism of foods and prohibits normal enzyme function. Canola contains Trans Fatty Acids. Trans fatty acids have been shown to have a direct link to cancer. shown to have a direct link to cancer.

Foods (including oils) are often labeled as containing trans fatty acids. However any food which says it contains hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils contains trans fatty acids: Hydrogenation is just the process in which

trans fats are formed (literally hydrogenation means adding hydrogen). These Trans Fatty acids are labeled as hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. Avoid all of them!

According to John Thomas’ book, Young Again, 12 years ago in England and Europe, rape seed was fed to cows, pigs and sheep who later went blind and began attacking people.

difficult to credit....

I'm confused Hankjam. I thought you consumed rapeseed oil! It once was used for oiling cars/machinery!

@hankjam Sorry.. I didnt say Olive Oil was plant based, I was referring to the fact that this was better for a low carb high fat diet.. I'm on it and have successfully lost 28lbs and kept it off.no issues with cholesterol or blood Glucose now either. Many types of commercially produced oils are very poor quality and oxidise quickly which can be harmful to health..Sunflower oil or Canola/Rapeseed in particular when subjected to high temperatures can turn rancid very quickly and produce volatile compounds hazardous to health. Good Quality Olive or Coconut Oils are much better for you in the long run and can survive high tempratures so do not oxidise to the extent of other plant/seed based oils. Look out for research done by Dr Aseem Malhotra and try and see The Big Fat Fix Movie which I would recommend.
Thank you I will

In LCHF, high fat doesn't refer to the actual content of fats or oils in a particular food but to the fact that you include a higher quantity of these foods in your diet to replace the energy you no longer get from previous high carb content. As long as you eat enough fats and oils to cover your energy needs (which can vary from person to person) the actual fat content doesn't particularly matter, but you should include at least some of the following: fattier cuts of meat and poultry and their fats, oily fish, dairy products (cream, butter, yoghurt, cheeses), eggs, nuts and seeds in various forms (including flours, oils and butters), olive & other oils, coconut oils and butters, olives and avocados.

So I count any and all fattier or oily foods and liquids as "high(er) fat" EXCEPT any stuff labelled "low fat" / "lite" which I won't ever eat (and never did even pre-LCHF ) - it's liable to have a high sugar/carbs content instead which is exactly what you should avoid in this diet.

I am from Canada, the land of canola. If you drive through parts of Alberta in the summer it is endless flat miles of yellow which is canola fields. Weird looking actually. It is not that plant based oils are bad but highly processed SEED oils and canola is among the worst. Olive oil is good as is avocado oil, coconut oil, butter, ghee, and a few others.

Alberta is home to me. Love the look of the yellow fields.

I am from coastal BC. All that flat gives me the willies :p I guess it is what you are used to. I love my mountains and ocean.
I'm 35 min from the mountains and can see them outside my windows. I agree not a fan of looking out and seeing nothing but fields.
Nothing like hijacking a thread to talk about our fantastic country:rolleyes:
Sorry ;)

I have no idea actually, but I don't eat canola any more if I can help it.

Not sure about too much bacon Hankjam. It's a processed meat and as such is cancerogenic. Add mustard to it and the risk lessons! Chicken breast is perfect - 0 gms!

As for olive oil - Italian organic, extra virgin oil from M and S is gorgeous.

Could you explain the mustard comment?

It is the first time I have ever heard mustard described as an anti-cancer agent. :)
