Okay, so. I haven't been doctors yet, but I am pretty certain I have a chest infection. Coughing up mucus, coughing constantly especially at night, sweating, etc etc. I've had this for about a week now, slowly getting worse. Last night I couldn't sleep, was coughing constantly, running to the toilet to cough up stuff. I've rang the doctors and made an appointment today. Do you think it's worth it? I'm not sure. I'm worried they'll just tell me to rest and drink hot drinks etc. Thank you for your help

Heya @Chloesnavy Sorry to hear you're still poorly, I would give them a call and see what they say, you've not been right for a while so it's best to get it checked out. Some things I would try are putting vicks on your feet whenever you lie down, helps clear the airwaves and gives you a better night's sleep, for your chest try a towel over your head and lean over hot water and breathe the steam in, which should help loosen the chest. Also dose up on your vitamins and try and eat well, so green veges etc, take care ;)

I'm never well I swear! Lol thank you. I mean I thought it was getting better yesterday as I was out walking etc, but then last night was awful! I have medicine and nothing is helping :( so I'm hoping they can give me something stronger lol.
I will try all of that though, thanks

Get plenty of bed rest. Keep warm. Get your boyfriend to do the shopping for that healthy food!

My experience of colds and coughs are they can sometimes appear to get worse before getting better, as the coughing, and the mucus (provided it is clear) can just be your body doing it's good work and clearing out the congestion from your cold. If you are coughing up green mucus, then that needs checking out.

I'm not for an instant suggesting there's nothing wrong with you, that you ignore it, or that your cough is actually in this early clearing up phase, just sharing my experience; as someone who, as a child and young person, probably had all the colds and coughs possible! I know T1s have to be more careful than most, so you have to decide what action is required.

At the Practice I use there is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who has had more training than the Practise Nurse and often sees patients with minor ailments. She is able to prescribe medications, up to a certain level, and where something is outside her permissions, she prepares the prescription and pops in to see a Doc to get it signed. It works extremely well, and it's often easier to access her than a full-blown Doctor, for something fairly straightforward.
