Type 1: I have got a cold and am I allowed lemsip

Hi Julia, personally I avoid it due to the sugar content and the fact they aren't very effective anyway, best thing for a cold is vicks, rub some on the soles of your feet at night and get a good night's sleep ;)

The only time I had flu since T1 diagnosis I went for lemons and hot water and let it run it's course. It was a nightmare to control BS with flu , good luck

I have got a cold and I don't know if I'm allowed lemsip to get rid of it quickly
To be honest, I don't find Lemsip does anything at all. No more effective than paracetamol on it's own. I think a bowl of hot water with a few drops of menthol & eucalyptus & cover your head with a towel & breathe in the steam. Also if you are taking anything for blood pressure you might need to check with your GP, mine told me to only take decongestants like Sudafed if I wanted some relief when going out for the evening say.
PS I've mentioned it on another post but rubbing some Vick into the bottom of your feet before bed & covering up with socks gives some relief. Don't know how it works but it does

As someone who has to have no sugar at all, the only meds for cold and flu I can take is paracetamol, a version that is low in lactose in its chemical make up!

When I talk about this with family, it always takes me back to watching on t.v., the series called The Beverly hillbillies'!
What happens is one of the characters has a potion that has moonshine in it.
The sufferer is told by his doctor to take meds and the cold should clear up within ten days to a fortnight! The sufferer is referred to the character with the potion with moonshine in. He has been told its a miracle cure for cold.
However and the point is, the advice from the potion maker (Granny) is drink the potion before bedtime and the cold will go between ten days to a fortnight!
The obvious point is that there is no cure for the common cold.
And any meds or potions relieve the symptoms!

I have a condition that has no cure, I will always have it!
But eating very low carb, relieves the awful symptoms that can make me very ill!
I'm fitter and healthier because of low carb!
And I intend to be here, a lot longer yet!

Don't trust the over the counter meds, as they have all kinds of ingredients, that could trigger your blood glucose levels.

I have never tried lemsip since I, ve had type2 so no idea.also I have never had a cold either since I was diagnosed.
I have tried lemsip years ago and never found it helped.also cough mixture is also a waste of time.
When I now have a cold, I just take paracetamol
