I guess it's not a need in the same way sight, or having both feet are. I have been asked in the surgery about ED, and quipped back, Can I have that as well as impotence? I too am of an age where it is no longer that important to me. I think Mrs Walnut Face will be more than happy come that time

I actually think it is important and age or length of a relationship shouldn't come into it. It is part of (but not the main part) of being so close with someone you love.
I am not sure if I would post if I had that problem, as it is a very intimate subject.
Take care

I must admit that a desire to avoid ED if at all possible, as well as preserving my sight and feet was one of the main reasons I made a dramatic change to my diet on diagnosis.

If this topic were to continue, how embarrassing would it be for a female to join in the topic and would that put you off from posting.?

And yet she says she would not post if she had that problem because it is very intimate. Is it odd that a female is commenting on this subject? Yes it is very intimate but talking about it is helped by talking about it.

Maybe that's it. We think subjectively and not objectively. How do we all feel about teeth which are at the other end of the body?
Problem is I've lost most of them as well.

In fact I miss my teeth more.

Why is it odd ? ED not only affects the man, it would affect his partner too, another male or a female, so not nice for both.
Quote 'And yet she says she would not post' .............. who me? If you are referring to me, I said I am not sure that I would post, (if I was the one who had a problem) not that I wouldn't.

If any one has a problem with a female posting support, then report it. If it has made anyone feel uncomfortable, that was not my intention at all. Apologies to @eddie1968 if I have offended in any way.

Let me take that a little further Rrb about being close with someone you love. I have known Mr E over 9 years and we have been married for two. We are a loving couple who hold hands whenever we can and have a cuddle when we want. However we have never had any interest in taking it further, we don't share a bed, in fact apart from this last month or so when I have been ill and he has slept in my Dads room (Dad isn't using it at the moment ;)) we don't even sleep in the same building. I think you are right Robs it doesn't matter half as much as folk make out. I would like to think that I would post if I were a man.

I Think it is okay to want to have a talk of this to most people very emotionally and physically important matter , some just live with it and some feel crippled and get other mental problems on top of it too

Myself and Mrs G have now been married for 42 years. The bond between us does not depend on such matters. We have been through very good times and some truly awful times.

Every thing that life has thrown at us has made us stronger and closer we are above all the best friend either of us have.
And I do not believe there is anything on God's Earth that can brake that bond.

We can discuss anything and if there is a problem together we can sort it out so no I am not embarrassed by this topic as I have already discussed with the only other person who is affected by it.

Must add I see no reason that should prevent any one commenting in this thread male or female

Firstly, thank-you to the OP. It seems that people are more willing to talk-about-not-talking-about-it than they are willing-to-talk-about-it. If that makes sense?

As a sufferer, I have read about this issue in various other forums. What I notice is that in forums for say, bodybuilding, they appear to be very open about discussing it. Perhaps because they are aware that of the sacrifices they are making (large muscle gains in exchange for lower libido and ED). By contrast, those with diabetes are not making a choice. Nobody chooses to get diabetes. It's not voluntary. Therefore, the sense of unity and comradery is somewhat diminished.

Additionally, as a young(ish) man I find it difficult to discuss issues such as these with more senior gentlemen who readily admit that it rarely bothers them. It bothers me and I know it bothers my GF even more. So again, I think there is a lack of 'common ground' where discussion is concerned.

Finally, I think that it is difficult to compare notes given the huge range of options and treatments available. I have read numerous things about Viagra, Cialis, Tren and more but there seems to be very little consensus about the "right" treatment. I noticed another poster here recommending Sidenafil but reviews I've seen don't rate it all. I guess because of things like this people are reluctant to advise others on such an intimate issue.

Well anyway, that's my input I'd welcome others opinions.

Over the top political correctness
I personally wouldn't discuss personal problems on a forum of any type, though would with my wife, Nurse and GP ( regardless of gender).

I have never been embarrassed about discussing anything medical. It is only by speaking up that GPs and Consultants can learn from their patients the extent of any medical problems. Back before I was diagnosed with T2D in 1990, I was prescribed a beta-blocker to treat high blood pressure. Literally within two weeks of taking this medication I developed ED and told my GP at the time. He more or less told me I was being stupid as he knew of no such side effect but he did change my medication. My ED did not disappear but got worse. About two years later, I noted that beta-blockers and other medications were being quoted on the descriptive leaflets issued with them, warning that, in rare cases, ED could be a side effect! I have mentioned other potential side effects of various medications, anaesthetics etc., since then, only to be told by various GPs that they hadn't had any such adverse effects drawn to their attention. Then, in various medical journals, one reads that some bright researches have come to such a conclusion years after I first raised the possible connections. So, it is up to patients to speak up so that the extent of such problems can be properly researched earlier. They might even discover a cure!

Following my earlier post, I can admit to having tried various pills, vacuum pumps, penile injections, all to no avail. This not only affected my love life but also caused pain to my wife as, around the same time, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and, following major surgery and radiation treatment, presumed that my lack of response was due to her "mutilation". It took a long time to overcome her reaction as I had no back-up from my GP as to the probable cause.

I am 70 and although suffer from ED, with the use of sildenefil prescribed by my doctor I am able to gain an erection most of the time. My wife has lost all interest in sex but bless her she still likes to masturbate me, and I am happy with that . So all is not lost.

No,I discuss every thing about my T1 (55 years) and any and I mean any side effects of this silent killer. 10 years ago after trying various meds for EDF I was put on a trial of auto injectors into to the penis and they work 100% of the time;so don't be shy talk as it may effect you one day
