how big a lump does your 250g of cauli make? Is it one of the fist sized amounts he was talking about?
Edited to say oooops
@Brunneria the 'reply' function just went for a burton, so am tagging you instead.
Wish I'd read this before I just scoffed my mahoosive bowl of curry and 'rice'! Could have shown you. You know those big pasta bowls, the size you'd serve into and eat out of? When it's rice, it's a big serving - the bowl was about a third full, and it was then piled high with curry and sprouts. Am full up.
For two servings (each the serving size described above) I microwave 500g frozen cauli on full power for 10 mins, then turn it over and give it another 5. I then put it into the food processor with lots of pepper and salt and a few sprinkles of nutritional yeast (to give it a gorgeous savoury flavour), and whizz it till it's rice. Then I bung it back in the microwave for 2 mins, stir and serve. Sometimes I chuck in some coriander before whizzing.
For mash (2 portions) I microwave 500g for 10 mins then another 10 mins (ie longer than for rice), and use a stick blender rather than a processor. Half a tub of Philly, handful(s) of grated cheese, pepper, nutritional yeast for yumminess. It ends up a smaller-looking amount but it's very filling and takes up about a third of a dinner plate.
For my supper on Sunday I wanted 'porridge' out of a bowl, preferably eaten in bed. I was cold and tired and hungry. I mashed 500g (TWO servings!) using my stick blender, with the cheeses and seasonings described above. Took it upstairs and ate the lot. Happy Snapsy. Perfect stodge fix...
BTW when I say 'a big serving', 'am full up' and 'very filling', I really mean it.
Oooops edited again to actually answer the question! No, in terms of fists, unwhizzed or unblended cauli x 250g is at least two fistfuls. Sorry - got carried away with waxing too lyrical about my favourite vegetable....
